Why Vegas Pro 19 Can Not Read This File?

True-H wrote on 10/21/2021, 2:31 PM

Vegas Pro 19 can not read a QuickTime file. Vegas open it as an empty event without video or audio as youcan see in the screenshot:

I can not share the file becouse it is huge (15GB) but here is it Media Info:

Using the latest Vegas Pro 19 in the latest update of Windows 10.

Do I need to install Apple QuickTime?

Any feedback highly appreciated.

UPDATE: I installed Apple QuickTime player anyway and it did not help. Strangely, even QuickTime player can not play the file. I get this error:

However my main media player, PotPlayer has no problem playing it smoothly. What I am missing?

I'm not familiar with QuickTime - but have you tried to activate the QuickTime plug-in in "Options / Preferences / Deprecated functions"?

You have to install the DNXhd codecs.

Many thanks guys 👍

Indeed, I needed to install the DNXhd codec and also activate the QuickTime plug-in for Vegas to read the file. @walter-i. provided half the solution and @Former user provided the other half so which one should I tag as the solution? 😁

Many thanks @juan_rios for providing the link. However, I did not install the 2.7.3 version from that link, instead, I downloaded the latest version 2.7.6 from the Avid Download Center.

Thanks again

If you have a lot of those files they won't work well in Vegas- the clips will potentially turn black. Consider converting DNXhd files to another intermediate format for use in Vegas (Apple ProRes, MagicYUV, etc.)

Tag one as the solution, then tag the other as the solution. Both will get credit

;?)

Unfortunately that doesn't appear to work as when I try it the forum only allows one solution.

I would mark this post as a solution, because it shows very clearly that the cooperation of several people (including - very important - the problem owner) is needed if a good solution is to be found.
Not to forget @RogerS final hint that this file format is difficult to handle in Vegas anyway, and should better be converted.
Agreed ???? 😁👍👍👍

I'd agree that @True-H tags his own comment about the suggestions that worked to solve his issue. I'm sure @walter-i. and @Former user don't mind as they get credited in that comment anyway.

Yes. Only one reply (the last one tagged) appears as the Solution to anyone looking at the thread.

Fortunately, I think the tick mark sticks to both profiles when more than one user is tagged. At least that was true when I tested it. That said, the quality of delivery pizza has gone downhill, so I'm making my own😄 (inside joke).
