That's because you may be trying to open the wrong file. Your project file has the .veg extension.

No you don't. Sony's last version was 13.

Show us what you are seeing. Without screenshots, it's hard to tell anything. I don't know what a "white file" is. Plus, make sure file extensions are turned on so they will also show.

@lieke "sony" vegas pro 14 does not exist. Please read carefully this post https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/sony-vegas-vs-vegas--119881/

Honestly, I can't believe how freaking hard it is to stop calling it Sony Vegas myself. To this day, every time I start typing in "vegascreativesoftware", my fingers automatically start typing "sonymediasoftware"...

No. If you click on a "video" file, your "player" will open. If you click on your "project" file, "Vegas" (not "sony") will open.

If you will wake up, state the facts, and details, someone "may" help you. If not, enjoy the rest of your day.

@Musicvid No need for that, If i'd written something like that I'd be getting told off! It's rude, aggressive & unnecessary

If the person insists they have "Sony" Vegas Pro 14, then it's an illegal copy. VP14 hasn't been around for 6 years. And what was shared with the OP is that there is something else wrong. What they are describing isn't the way Vegas works when you save your project, as pointed out by @Musicvid in his first reply. So the OP contradicts this information, which is correct. So he explained it again with more detail in his second reply, with the caveat of stating facts and details. If they don't... it's on them.

Sadly, some people, either through a language barrier and/or comprehension, just don't want to accept anything (like the comment on having sony vegas pro 14.0 exists because they have it) except what they are saying, even if it isn't factual.

Vegas Pro 14 being the first VP version after Sony sold VP to MAGIX, I can sought of understand why somebody with VP14 (but no later version - though it would have been hard to miss the branding change) might still refer to VP14 as being a Sony product. Not so much when referring to VP 15+.

sony vegas pro 14.0 exists. otherwise i wouldnt be able to have it

If you installed a product called Sony Vegas Pro 14.0, it is a cracked/pirated copy of Vegas Pro 14. Pirate sites to this day still title Vegas Pro as being a Sony product.

To check whether or not you have a legal version of Vegas Pro 14, you would have had to create a MAGIX account at the time of registering/activating it. If yes, go to the My Products listing under your MAGIX My Account and it will list your VP14 serial number as well as providing download options.

I'll offer two possibilities:
1. The project file got saved (or renamed) with an extension other than .veg.
or
2. Windows has lost the file association between .veg files and VEGAS.

The normal icon for a .veg file comes from the application it is associated with.  If no application is associated with the file type, the file gets a completely white icon.  Likewise for a mistyped file extension -- .vxx, for example.

@lieke -- Make sure your projects are saved with a .veg extension.

If the project already has a .veg extension, try right-clicking on one of your .veg files, then select "Open with", and locate your version of Vegas. You probably have to click "more apps", and if you don't see VEGAS listed, scroll down and click "Look for another app on this PC". Somewhere along the way is a tick box for "always use this app..." that will make the association permanent, so that Windows automatically knows that .veg files are opened with VEGAS.

@lieke, Magix bought Vegas Pro 13 from Sony. VEGAS Pro 14 was released by Magix. So I stand by my statement. In fact, there was also a version of Vegas Pro 13 released by Magix after the purchase.

It's owned by Magix now and has been since May of 2016 (over 6 years now) and VEGAS Pro 14 was released in September of 2016 - 4 months after the purchase by Magix.
