Am N00b, Cannot Import .mp4 or .avi files to Vegas 14

TheUglySchmuck wrote on 12/31/2017, 4:34 AM

I am very new, and I recorded something on OBS to .flv. When I learned .flv is not supported I converted to .mp4, and it won't work. I've tried changing the codec, but nothing I do seems to work.

I have K lite and quick time up to date. I've scoured the internet for hours for an answer, but I cannot seem to find one. Please help! This 400$ software is acting like freeware, and making Adobe Premiere look more enticing...I'd rather not! The humble bundle was too good to pass up.

Uninstall first all the K-lite pack and than reïnstall Vegas from scatch.
Use these kind of OBS settings with a framerate of the refresh rate of your screen.
They served me very well using the mp4 files in VPro

Alright, I uninstalled the KLITE and reinstalled Vegas.

I take it I'm going to have to re-record my footage? Files still won't work in it. The intent of the recording is for YouTube, and Twitch vods, are Cornico's settings too much or not enough?

Thanks again,

Schmuck

Depends on how you recorded your original files, which you haven't shared.

I re-recorded with Cornico's settings, they worked.

Original settings had HARDWARE NVEC for encoding, not SOFTWARE x264. Indistinguishable went to High/Medium file size, and changed .flv to .mp4

Video was increased to output scale of 1920x1080, same filter (lanczos) and increased FPS to 60.

Still unsure why this works, but don't really care either. Just wanted it to work. If y'all want to explain it, fine by me though.

That's the thing, I knew that. So I tried converting in VLC to .mp4 or AVI. Here's the file for those, that didn't work:

General
Complete name                         \Desktop\Twitch\Clips\Vegas\Replays\Converted OBS Files\MotionJPEG-MpegAudio-AVI.avi
Format                                   : AVI

Video
ID                                       : 0
Format                                   : JPEG
Codec ID                                 : MJPG
Duration                                 : 22 min 9 s
Bit rate                                 : 11.7 Mb/s
Width                                    : 1 280 pixels
Height                                   : 738 pixels
Display aspect ratio                     : 1.734
Frame rate                               : 60.000 FPS
Color space                              : YUV
Compression mode                         : Lossy
Bits/(Pixel*Frame)                       : 0.207
Stream size                              : 1.81 GiB (96%)

There were others, similar to this, but no matter the conversion, none of them worked

You may try re-encoding to MP4 in Handbrake.

Vegas does not, and never has, opened Flash flv. You would need a third party decoders to open AVI MJPEG.

As Cornico suggests, the results will be inferior to encoding correctly for Vegas.

Thanks all for all the advice. It works now, I will certainly get handbrake!
