AC3 stereo or AC3 5.1?

vkmast wrote on 8/27/2021, 5:45 AM

And which version and build do you have?

David-Fisher wrote on 8/27/2021, 10:21 PM

It is Ver. 19 build 341 and it is AC3 stereo only

Dexcon wrote on 8/27/2021, 11:16 PM

Sadly, AC-3 5.1 surround sound is not a render option in Vegas Pro 17, 18 or 19. The last AC-3 5.1 surround sound was in Vegas Pro 16. AC-3 Pro (with more custom settings) last appeared in Sony Vegas Pro 13. Please see item 31 in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-faqs-and-troubleshooting-guides--104787/

Previous posts re this same issue have included the suggestion to render to WAV PCM 5.1. Other render options in VP19 offering 5.1 are ATRAC Audio and Sony Wave64. I'm nearing the stage where I'll have to try this myself, but Voukoder may possibly be able to transcode one or all of the above 5.1 renders from VP19 to AC-3 5.1 surround sound.

David said he's using stereo, though.

Is Vegas able to connect to the internet to activate the plugin?

EricLNZ wrote on 8/27/2021, 11:30 PM

My understanding is that Windows components are used for AC3 so codec unlocking shouldn't be involved?

Re:

I read it as though AC3 stereo was the only choice in VP19 implying, to me anyway, that 5.1 wasn't available.

It looks as though I may have been caught in the first over by the Wicket Keeper after being tricked by the delivery of the old 'ambiguity' ball 🙂🙂🙂.

The Render+ tool in HappyOtterScripts can render to 5.1 with choice of codecs including aac, ac3, eac3 and dts. Frauenhofer and Nero are also supported, but you must provide the binaries. It also supports stereo.

Here's a screengrab of the Encoder Settings dialog

It would be appreciated if you could explain what 'binaries' are.

Also, I was looking during the week at HOS re 5.1 creation in its user manual and at some video demos but I couldn't establish yes or no as to whether HOS AC3 5.1 supports 24 bits as only 16 bits was shown in the Bit Depth field in the demo. And I think that 512 Kbps is the max bit rate.

Again, itt would be much appreciated if your could advise.

TIA.

It just means that I can't distribute the files neroAacEnc.exe and fdkaac.exe as part of the HOS setup package. You must download and copy them to the main HOS folder C:\Program Files\HappyOtterScripts.

E.g. if you currently select FDK, you get this message.

For aac, ac3, and eac3, the max bit rate (5.1) is set at 640. For dts, it's 3840.

Regarding bitrate--the wave render template from Vegas sets the bit rate. The default is 16, but you can easily select 24 bit for 5.1 or stereo for that matter.

@wwaag  ... many thanks for the detailed information - it looks as though that HOS will be the answer for me in VP18 and VP19. Its going to take me a few more days to finish polishing off a project in VP18 and will then need to do both video and audio 5.1 rendering, so I'll get onto HOS then. Many thanks again.

The last AC-3 5.1 surround sound was in Vegas Pro 16. AC-3 Pro (with more custom settings) last appeared in Sony Vegas Pro 13.

My Vegas Pro 14 still encodes 5.1 AC3, but with the AC3 Studio version. DVDA is installed.

I believe I could get AC3 Pro back if I can install VP8 on Windows 10 -- but unless there is a need, I won't try.

rraud wrote on 8/31/2021, 10:18 AM

I have VP-9 and DVD Arc on an older PC and use that to encode audio in AC-3 Pro.

wwaag wrote on 8/31/2021, 10:22 AM

@Musicvid

You can actually get AC3 Pro working in V14 and I think a couple of later versions. @joelsonforte.br has a thread detailing how it can be done. Perhaps he can respond.
