Clarification about rules on this Forum.

lenard wrote on 12/23/2020, 12:24 AM

I've had 2 messages that I know about deleted in past 2 days. Normally a mod will message a user the reason so they can learn about what they said that was wrong, but this has not happened on either occasion. I am wondering if it's a rogue mod that is deleting my messages due to his own sensibilities, and not for breach of rules

For reference and this isn't meant to flaunt rules, but for context this was the last message that got deleted. In both deleted messages I mention Davinci Resolve, so am I having my messages deleted for promotion of a rival NLE and if so is that due the opinion of an individual mod that's gone rogue, or are these real breaches of the forum rules. I just like to help out my Vegas friends and find deletion of messages without explanation quite rude. Thanks

If you want a powerful GPU that will work without problems there is 2080super, or more powerful 2080ti, but they are not priced economically. The 3060ti I think should be best GPU for Vegas on a price per performance scale but slow on current versions of Vegas. If you also use other NLE's such as Davinci Resolve then it comes down to how much you want to spend, as it can use 100% GPU of any card depending on what you're doing

In my opinion this is a user forum to help each other with and when using Vegas Software.
Unfortunately, I have never seen this in many of your messages, only complaining and swearing and calling on the users here to use other software.
It is therefore logical that what does not belong here is removed by a moderator.

I haven't just walked away from Vegas, I want it to succeed and disappointed with slow progression with bugs and implementation of new codecs. Vegas GUI with the internals of the other editor that I often mention would be amazing. Maybe my disappointment sometimes shows through in comparision to always happy upbeat vegas users like yourself that are equally as helpful as I try to be.

The contention I have is with my message above. @j-v you are probably next in line to become a mod, do you think you would delete that message, and if so explain your reasoning. The other problem is that to take on a role such as mod, even in a non paid volunteer role there are certain expectations, and rules you must abide by. Secretly deleting a user's messages without explanation in the hope that nobody ever noticed there was a message is extremely unethical.

A moderator should never have to hide their actions because it calls into question if they have any ability to give adequate reason for their actions. JV we call it's the slippery slope of corruption, and they may start their vigilante actions with me, and you're more than happy about it, but what about their 2nd or 3rd victim who they personally decide is a menace to the forum but don't break the rules and their messages start secretly disappearing. We get to a situation where the asset to the community becomes the liability.

I"M calling for transparency and for the moderator who is behaving like this to come forward and explain why he feels he can operate above moderator law, I'd also like a second opinion from other moderators. Were my messages really against the rules of this forum?

PS I havent' sworn at anyone, so I hope you don't become mod soon as you'll join the vigilante mod gang due to something that never happened.😀😬😳

No never and I also don't want to become one, also because of my age.
I was co-founder and longtime moderator of the Dutch Vegas forum untill I got a terrible illness, but in my time as a moderator I should have deleted your post with reason and gave you a warning that on repeat you should be blocked for one or two weeks.

Does that include the manipulated video that you uploaded to the forum a couple of weeks ago (https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-18-update-2-build-373-general-discussion--124911/?page=5#ca782962 - that video was quite rightfully deleted not long thereafter)? That video almost but not quite subliminally flashed Vegas Pro over the presenter's mildly critical observations about what was actually another NLE. The complete original YT video was not about - and did not even mention - Vegas Pro? Of course, only you know if it was you who manipulated that video. If it was you who manipulated it, then this may be a time for you to reflect upon your purpose for posting that video on the forum. If it wasn't you who manipulated that video, then you need to be more cautious about posting videos that have so obviously been faked.

Also, look at it another way. The forum is hosted by MAGIX Vegas Creative Software. Perhaps they are concerned about the forum becoming an avenue for advocates for other companies' NLEs, particularly from those who regularly 'bang the drum' for a competing NLE product when the 'I love VP but want it to be better like XXX' rings somewhat disingenuous after a while.

@j-v I don't know what happens in Dutch forums, maybe it's a different culture, but to be a professional mod, you don't hold grudges, you are impartial and work within the structure of the rules of the forum. Everyone is equal. now let me show you the message that got deleted, For the sake of this exercise, user John Smith posted it, try and verbalise what's wrong with it, and why it deserves to be deleted with a warning

If you want a powerful GPU that will work without problems there is 2080super, or more powerful 2080ti, but they are not priced economically. It could be JV, that both you and the rogue mod are right for deleting the message but I still don't know what's wrong with it, and that's why in a well balanced society we have laws that both mods and citizens abide by. When a mod believes they're above the law you have problems like this. Currently i'm of the believe the words davinci resolve should never be spoken, but I also know that's not a rule. When a mod goes rogue it causes all sorts of unforeseen problems

Last words from me @lenard:
Some time ago I refused to see and read anymore what you wrote, but now I have some more time due to the Corona disaster and I was curious how long it would take until a moderator should correct or bann you.
For me it were not 1 or 2 post but an endless repeat of pass off on Vegas and promote Da Vinci.

That video almost but not quite subliminally flashed Vegas Pro over the presenter's mildly critical observations about what was actually another NLE.

This is the problem we have in this forum. Many are not artistic, most have the brains of engineers and very talented in their own fields, but not artistic. That was a satirical piece , intended to make a point. The young lady was never talking about Vegas, but she could have been, everything she said was valid for criticism of vegas and how vegas could improve, and I said that from the start, infact you never believed the young lady was talking about vegas.

But you were looking out for the dumb masses that you knew would believe it was real. What if I were to say to you nobody would believe that was real, and it wasn't your staggeringly high intellect that made you aware. No more than anyone would believe subtiles for a "hitler racts' video are the real words from the actual film "DownFall" Nobody would ever say 'hitler reacts' videos are attempting to manipulate anyone into believing what they're seeing is real.

@set was the mod on duty at the time, he lives in a developing country where English is not his first language and the culture very different, he ruled that it was a deliberate fraudulent attempt to make something appear real. It's not set's fault, he believed your version of reality, and assumed you knew what you were talking about. I really do hope he's not the mod that's gone rogue, due to a character assassination created by you.

Before you start again, Indonesia has amazing film makers, The Raid my favourite action film, but what makes them so amazing is how different and original they are untainted by western culture and memes, the ones you need to know about to adequately analyse my artistic creation.

That would also be interesting to know if true as the a moderator would not be at fault, but when there is no transparency when there normally is, this isn't the conclusion you jump to, there's likely impropriety happening, and someone is doing something they shouldn/t

@Dexcon if you don't know you were in the wrong by now, I"m not going to be able to convince you otherwise. The biggest problem is your manipulation of Set. He's always been friendly to me, and he's a great Film Maker. To think that he now believes I attempted to deceive the forum and in a sense engage in corporate espionage due to your actions really saddens me. Lets not continue this Dexcon, nothing good can come from it. I can't forgive your actions

I see it this way: Magix hosts this forum and we are guests here.
And we should also behave, as every host who invites someone into their home, wishes. That doesn't mean we have to kneel in front of him, but we should behave properly.

But even we, as hosts, would not be happy about a guest who behaves like an elephant in a china shop. At some point the host will manage to maneuver the elephant out the door. You don't need any rules or laws at all, that only has to do with decency and mutual respect.

At last, I have to say I am honestly sorry for you as I have the impression that you really know a lot about video editing and would be a real asset to the forum.

@lenard you are descending into personal attacks. I've forwarded this thread to an admin of this forum.

RogerS wrote on 12/23/2020, 8:49 AM

@lenard You should address mods directly and can send private messages. This thread is pointless and not doing you any favors, as people are just speculating about your behavior and you are responding with attacks in kind.

(Personally it was clear to me that the "fake" video you made was just an analogy. I think in many cases, criticism of VP is fair, but there is a reason we use it. If you think the software is flawed and that it is not going to get better, why waste time with Vegas or with us? Why spend time telling everyone the software they are using is no good? I just don't get your motivation. FWIW, I have Resolve and used FinalCut X and Premiere Pro in the past. They all have their weaknesses.)

This is a community forum owned and operated by Vegas Creative Software. It is not a public soapbox, nor is it a vehicle for attracting personal attention.

The relevant rules, designed in part to discourage shills, grandstanders, and brand sabotage, are worth reading again. Forum moderators are under no obligation to issue warnings for noncompliance. Personally, I'm thankful to see them taking a stand.
