Clips in the timeline all of a sudden stop showing up

john-bollenbacher wrote on 4/30/2020, 1:21 PM

Using Vegas 17 on Win 10 Dell 9570.

Has anyone else experienced this? Clips that are in the timeline all of a sudden stop showing up in the monitor. They are still in the timeline, but either a black screen when the playhead goes over them. Shutting down Vegas and re-opening solves the problem, and they are back, but after editing for a bit other clips stop showing up, or stop being heard.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Now - it's beginning to happen to clips that I can hear in the timeline (sfx), but then when I render out they are not there in the final render. Super annoying.

I would start with the Interactive Tutorials and learn the controls.

Track Mute and Solo buttons are strong suspects.

Thanks, but that is not the culprit. Other items in those tracks play with no problem, and the audio you can hear when I'm editing; but then gone from the render.

Please show screenshots from your complete Vegas surface.

Sure - here you go. I have been editing off and on again with Vegas since it was with Sonic Foundry. So, having a mistakenly muted track or clip is really not what is going on here. I would have been able to pick up on that. I tried deleting and then adding the audio back in that was disappearing, and then the video clip above it disappeared from the monitor like I outlined above.

I also deleted the cache etc to try and reset Vegas, but that didn't help. So def feels like a software issue.

I took advantage of a deal last year to do the Vegas 365, and never would have renewed but got charged for another year before I could cancel. I thought I would give it one last college try to see if I might get some value out of it....but no good. I'm just going to render out what I can and finish on Resolve. Too much work on Vegas. Thanks though.

What video to you have on the timeline?

Have you tried with GPU turned off?

I'm a little confused by your screen shot. Is there actual video content at 0:00:00.000, your cursor position?

Sorry to hear about your experience:

If you're adamant about withdrawing from VEGAS without resolving the issue and are still within 14 days after you were charged, I believe you can contact them for a refund.

Happened to me and they obliged.

@Mohammed_Anis Sadly that was not my experience with Magix. The day I got the email saying they had charged me $200+ I emailed and told them I had not wanted to renew and could I get a refund. Their reply was "Sure you can cancel, but that will go into effect at the end of the next year, and thank you, we'll keep your money." I know this is how things work, and why companies do the subscription thing, luring people in with discounts to then hit them with the full charge when they forget to cancel...although $200+ without the option, like you said, to have some grace period seems somewhat shady.
But, like I said, I was willing to give it another shot; sadly it's too flaky. Some nice features in Vegas, but seriously lagging in other areas, on top of the buggy software. That's why it will never be a major player in professional broadcast market.

Thats what people said about premiere till Final Cut died and thats what we said about resolve until it started recieving codecs well.

I bid you good luck.

I've experienced the same problem in V17 as well. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it usually takes a project restart to bring the preview back to life. At the moment, it's more of an annoyance than a showstopper. To me, it's very reminiscent of problems with avi files that would sometimes "go dark" which would always prompt a Vegas restart prior to render.

@wwaag yeah, it was happening to me so frequently - and the audio files that would play in the preview wouldn't show up in the render - that I had to finish in resolve. I had clients waiting so I couldn't keep trouble shooting or restarting. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Mohammed_Anis I hear you...but if it was going to happen for Vegas it would have already have happened. You either need to be innovative, or cheap and good, or have big company behind you. Vegas had a moment of innovation with it's awesome preview back in the early Sonic Foundry days, but now it's not really innovative anymore. It's pretty cheap, but from my experience not good enough. For a moment it had a big company behind it, but now it's Magix. FCP - innovative and a big company and cheap-ish for a time. Adobe - huge company that kept at it, and now it usually has the new features first. Resolve - innovative company behind it - cheap - best color correction on the market.
But IDK...Vegas seems more popular in Europe? Maybe?
Best of luck to you too!

I am having the same issue as the other creators. It's a shame people comment about everything but a solution.
