Constant Crashing While Editing

georgiaguy wrote on 4/14/2021, 5:26 AM

Been using MS for years, have the latest build, and I build and buy my PCs just for video editing. (very strong) However during EVERY video editing most over 15 minutes, MS stops working multiple times. In fact I have to SAVE my work every time I do something for peace of mind. My question is... how do I get an error report to post?

The VEGAS Support starts here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/interview/ (Ignore the FAQs, click on and describe issue when asked and click until you get to send/submit a support request.)

Not really, MS just stops working. I have to click the X multiple times and it finally closes. Then restart. This has been an issue for years and several builds. EVERY project I do (4 a week) does the same thing. It happens on 3 PCs, all high performance. I do not get a "crash report" dialog box.

OBS Screen recording video?

I really can't... because the screen will just turn white hazed out... blue spinner circle... then I have to close. It's fast and unpredictable. Never know when but it crashes at least 4-6 times on every video and has for years. With multiple versions and several PCs.

set wrote on 4/14/2021, 5:30 PM

I mean if these MP4 are from OBS screen recordings? (since it is 59.94 fps)

If it is, and if they are encoded via hardware NVENC for example - then it could be a source of problem. I rarely doing editing of screen record, but when editing that nvenc obs screen record - I get crash. One possible solution for this case will be using x264 low cpu usage for encoding in obs setting.

ok - actual camera footages then - thx.

just reminder that you can start trying these tips:

Although this one focus on Vegas Pro, but I believe some of tips can be applicable to VMS.

Most of that is for rendering, not editing, but I have gone through that before.

@georgiaguy

As a test, turn off GPU Acceleration of Video Processing in your Preferences.

Update your video drivers to the latest studio version.

All done...... as I said been using MS for years since it version 14 I believe. All my PCs are high end video editing machines and up to date.

I have posted about this as well, it's just a fact of life I have learned to live with. I save after every edit. Sometimes just before it freezes I am able to save my project. I am also using 1920 x 1080 60fps footage from my Cannon video cameras, which are created in MP4 format.

I seem to think it has something to do with adding text, especially titler pro events. Sometimes I can go a few hours without a crash, sometimes it crashes every 2 minutes!

I usually know when it's going to crash because the preview window video freezes but the audio continues. If I immediately hit the save project icon, it will save, then become unresponsive and fade the window with the spinning cursor.

THANK YOU............ I hope someone from MS will READ this thread. I too save just about after every little edit which can be 100s if not 1000s per video. Yes, sometimes you see the video in the timeline turn black or white and you know it's crashing. This week's video had over 30 crashes while editing over 2 days. I'm actually GLAD that someone out there is having the same issue.
