Hello.........does anyone know how to deactivate older versions of Sony Vegas Pro from a broken hard drive. I want to be able to reinstall SVP12 on a new hdd after installing OS.

Just do it using you serial number but not your old machine ID -- contact customer service if issues.

Hi,

older (Sony) versions just increased a counter on the activation server. I have multiple times reinstalled Vegas 10 for example. Once I hit the activation limit, I had to connect Sony support.

They resetted for me that counter. I think it is now the same, you just have to connect Magix if you need. If you didn't install -and activate- your software in a while, I think there will be no problem with activation.

Yes.

As above commented, it's different with Sony/SCS versions. "Older versions of Vegas Pro are licensed under a system (as previously used by Sony) which permits use on multiple computers by one user; after an unspecified number of installations on different or updated PCs you may need to contact support to reset your "installation count". Oops, I worded that wrong.....I will be using the original OS install disk & Product Key.......will that still change the machine ID?

thanks,

robert

Yes, it will. In my example I always installed on the same 2 computers, and so exhausted the limit.

I save system images for each hardware platform with the O/S and freshly installed applications. I very rarely reinstall Windows on a machine until I give away the hardware and I don’t remember going over the Sony / Magix installation limit for versions 4 through 14.

A few years ago, I reinstalled the OS from a recovery disk on a Dell. The PC's ID was the same. Off course this was with SCS Vegas, so re-authorizing VP was a non-issue.

Thanks to everyone for replying. I formatted a new hdd yesterday and loaded VP12, and 13 with no activation problems of any kind. I even installed, and opened VegasPro 16 with no problems. Hope everyone didn't overindulge over Thanksgiving dinner.
