How do add only the video to the timeline

kmaultsby wrote on 10/5/2019, 3:08 PM

Hello everyone. This maybe easy for everyone else but I can't locate it or find anything on Youtube. I have a lot of Travel video were I will have a dedicated music tack to go with the video. I just want to add the video only to timeline in Vegas Pro. I do you do that?

From online Help (F1): "If you're adding video files to the timeline, you can choose to add only the audio or video stream to your project. Right-click and drag the files to the timeline. When you drop the files, a shortcut menu is displayed. Choose Audio Only or Video Only from the shortcut menu and choose a command from the submenu to arrange the event on the timeline."

Thanks vkmast I went into the help and nothing came up. How did enter it in the Search? I did adding clips and adding video files to the timeline.

For us less-refined types, it's pretty easy to add the track, ungroup, and delete the audio.

And yet another way. Put the event in the Trimmer window, right-click and select 'Video Only' and then 'Add Media from Cursor'. Very useful if you are also trimming the event anyway in Trimmer.

Or just mute the audio track, if you don't mind the extra track.

@kmaultsby Search "video only" gives you "Adding media files to your project". It has a sub-item "Using the VEGAS Pro Explorer to add media and create events". The method I quoted is in the Tips there. "Right-click and drag the files to the timeline. When you drop the files, a shortcut menu is displayed" like below.

Of course you can use other methods mentioned above if you prefer them.

I find it annoying that selecting 'Video only' is not remembered. You have to reselect for every clip you do. Supposedly 'Tab' selects Video only but doesnt work.

I have assigned the keys in the Trimmer Alt+V for Video, Alt+A for audio and Alt+B for both. That saves having to use menus to select the video or audio only.

@paul-marshall Trimmer: "Selecting data: To select only the audio or video portion of the media, right-click and choose Select Audio Only or Select Video Only from the shortcut menu, or you can press Tab or Shift+Tab to cycle the selection among audio only, video only, or audio and video."

paul-marshall wrote on 10/6/2019, 5:11 AM

vkmast Clearly I did not make myself clear. Control keys are easier than menus and TAB does not work anyway.

Probably I did not make it clear. And Tab works as Help says.

paul-marshall wrote on 10/7/2019, 3:04 AM

vkmast Thanks for confirming Tab should work, I know it used to, I am using an external keypad controller so that may be interfering with tab. .

@vkmast Whats the significance, difference if any between the three different ways in the sub menu, across, time, tracks, takes etc? Thanks.

vkmast wrote on 10/7/2019, 8:51 AM

@Former user All this and more in online Help (F1) of your software. See "Using the VEGAS Pro Explorer to add media and create events" > "Adding multiple files and creating events".

Former user wrote on 10/7/2019, 8:59 AM

@vkmast Thanks, that makes it clearer.
