What DO you want as a BG? There has to be something. A video or picture that is not full screen? Then PIP. Can you elaborate more?

bruh-b wrote on 9/1/2019, 11:30 AM

I want to render a video with a transparent background, like a transparent .png image. I thought that maybe .mp4 doesn't support alpha channel, and that's why it doesn't work.

Musicvid wrote on 9/1/2019, 12:31 PM

Some AVI and MOV formats support Alpha Layer (RGB32) encoding.

MP4 does not.

bruh-b wrote on 9/1/2019, 4:17 PM

Nevermind, I found a way to do it.

@vkmast Yep, this option is checked from first time i had set preferences.

Edit: Setup finished (maybe due to Photoshop closed) but still no QuickTime...

@Former user @vkmast Which ones components do you install? I uncheck all except the "Quicktime essentials". I'll try to reboot...

Yes quicktime essentials . Don't need the rest.

Without a 3rd party plugin it's not possible to save alpha channel but vegas17 disables quicktime by default? So the convoluted fix to saving alpha channel in Vegas just got even more convoluted even though other editors such as Resolve will automatically choose quicktime and save alpha channel correctly if you using the text generator to create overlays etc.

john_dennis wrote on 9/1/2019, 6:52 PM

If that was my only reason to install Quicktime, I’d use a Windows .avi option.

@Sylk Using a mov template you need to select a 'Video Format' such as png, in the drop down list, that supports 32 bit in order to have an alpha channel.

Or use uncompressed avi which has the option for including an alpha channel. But your file size will be monstrous of course.

I have same version quicktime. Not sure what the problem is. I don't have vegas17.

@EricLNZ The problem is precisely that QuickTime is not available in the VP17 encoders list.
