How to create usable file sizes

drpmanuell wrote on 10/26/2018, 9:14 PM

Hi team,

Am a newbie, trying to edit an MP4 file that is 24mbs, yet the rendering afterwards (for streaming through internet for online students) is producing files that are about 660mbs.....way too big. I tried to reduce the rendering but have suffered major quality loss. Have looked through your tutorials, but can't find one that addressed this specifically...perhaps I missed it?

Looking forward to some easy to understand help. Using Movie Studio 15, on PC.

There are only two things that affect video file size: Length of program and rendered bitrate. If your file is too big, these are the things you need to concentrate on. There is a constant battle for lower bitrates with higher quality. 24mbs seems way high for streaming. Try more around 8 to 10 (which is DVD quality). Also, don't go for the highest resolution. In some cases, lower resolution will look better at lower bitrates than high resolution at the same bitrate. The bits have less to do so to speak.

Thank you for the advice, but what/where would the setting be? I have tried a combination (through the 'make movie' and 'advanced settings') and can't seem to get the results you are describing.

I'd recommend going to the program's Project menu and selecting Render As to get to the main output template menu.

Selecting the option Magix AVC/Internet HD 1080p 29.97 fps option should create an excellent-looking, compact file that should also stream very effectively.

Thanks Steve, I rendered at those settings but it came out at 1,062,333KB...a bit high.... I was only editing 40 seconds off the start of the original mp4 file (28mbs)....I cant work out what this program is doing to it....

Doesn't 1,062,333 kb = 1 gig?

@drpmanuell

When I use that template with whatever sourcefile my MediaInfo reports next about the used bitrate.

Can you show us that MediaInfo of your rendered file?

1,000,000 BYTES = 1 Megabyte, and that is exactly what you have, and that is not too large for 40 seconds of video. Get Steve's book and it will explain everything!

We try extra hard here to use precise nomenclature; even so, sometimess pros make mistakes.

MusicVid, thanks but it is KB, not bytes...and I edited 40 seconds off the video (there was a lead in with no sound or vision)... the MP4 is about 28 minutes long and is 28mb in its original form....

J-V I can't find that Mediainfo on the program, this is the best I can come up with.

When you have MediaInfo working for you, post the full readout.

Best.

j-v gave the link to MediaInfo above.

Have attached details from MediaInfo. First one is the edited version using Movie Studio 15 Platinum [note file size reported as over 1 gig]

Second shot is the original file (I am trying to edit 40 secs from the start)

I would like the outcome to be a file that is at least the same size as the original if not smaller, and to have best screen quality.

Musicvid wrote on 10/27/2018, 5:52 PM

Your original file is unusable afaiac. Is it still images?

However, you would **MATCH MEDIA SETTINGS and render at 25fps PAL at 100 Kbps in your advanced settings. Handbrake is another option.

These are the most ridiculous source properties ever. When working with downloaded source, one deserves what one gets.

**Search this on the forum--please dont ask.

AFAIK and as I can see that is not possible with any Vegas version.
Lowest render quality for AVC is 64kbps and that rendered video is so much pixelated that is is too bad to watch.
But if you only want to cut off a piece of that mp4 file you better use the free MP 4 splitter, google for that program
BTW.
Your rendersettings don't match the source settings, the dimensions have to be set to 1920x1200 and the framerate to 25 fps
