how to move/install older vegas studio from win7 to new win10 machine?

Chris-Mork wrote on 4/20/2020, 6:04 PM

First off... is this REALLY support and not just slacking it off to the 'community forum'? After all, I did 'pay' for my software at one time. Anyway... I have a copy of vegas studio platinum ver. 12 (with extras) on an old win 7 64 bit machine. How, or can I move the install to a new win 10 machine I just built? Does my license permit 'concurrent' or 'consecutive' use? i.e. both machines will not be running at the same time. I got a much more powerful machine for faster renders, etc. How do I go about installing it on my win 10 machine, and can I leave it on my old machine? Thanks.

AMD Ryzen 7 3800x, gigabyte X570 AORUS mobo, Radeon 570 RX 4g video card, 16g ram, SSD for renders, win 10 pro 64bit

Click "SUPPORT NEW" right above to find the current method of trying to contact VEGAS Support.

"Older versions of Vegas Pro [and Movie Studios] than 14.0 are licensed under a system (as previously used by Sony) which permits use on multiple computers by one user; after an unspecified number of installations on different or updated PCs you may need to contact support to reset your "installation count"."

"Your software can be downloaded by entering your serial number(s) at the MAGIX Download Center

Your software can also be downloaded from the MAGIX Service Center as follows:

Visit your MAGIX Account > Login if necessary > Click "My products" (If you don't see it, see next bullet point).

Missing products can be added by returning to the previous page and clicking "Product registration". When registering, you can enter "Sony Creative Software" as the place of purchase unless bought from a 3rd-party retailer."

So... after much wailing and gnashing of teeth... HERE is the DIRECT address to make a service request/support ticket: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/form/?title=install

Just go to that address, change the subject line to whatever, then fill it out to request support.

NOTE - the last bit '?title=install' is merely what is in the subject line of the support request form... SO... if you change it to say 'driver' it would submit a request with 'driver' in the subject field.

WOW! for a supposed support request, they sure hide it VERY deeply! You would think they would put a link in your profile page or something... since you DID pay for it!

This forum is neither official support nor is it slacking. Please make a note of it.

So Musicvid... you then support my previous statement. Vegas is slacking it off to the unofficial forum for answers and making it difficult to get an actual support representative. Thanks.

No, none of the above. Please refrain from using confrontational language.

You have been given the correct paths to Support; no one is making them difficult to use.

In fact, I prefer you go that route.

Bye.

My quote "is this REALLY support and not just slacking it off to the 'community forum', as written, implies VEGAS is not doing proper support BY slacking it off TO the 'community', and not directly addressing it, i.e. making it difficult to find a simple link to make a support request. I did NOT call the 'community' 'slacking' or lacking in support, I questioned the need to go on a merry chase through roundabout links or scouring forums when most software companies worth their salt have clear paths to support. And BTW *you* also replied THIS community was NOT "official support". Are you feeling ok dude? You really jumped on my back like you OWN this forum or something(?) Oh, and don't bother replying... just stew in your superiority.

Bye.
