I'm locked out of Vegas

Paul-Fierlinger wrote on 9/23/2019, 11:35 AM

Security permission is denying me all access to my Vegas build 321. I can't even uninstall Vegas because of security errors. I'm in a jam, can someone help me? After closing Vegas and attempting to open it again I got:

An error occurred reading folder:

Access is denied. (5)

Select Access to attempt to get access to this folder.

But clicking on Access won't do anything.

EDIT:

Again we tried to uninstall the update and we got:

Error getting file security: C:\Program

Files\Vegas\Vegas Pro 17.0\Get Last Error:5

I'm flummoxed.

Are you logged into Windows as an Administrator?

Paul-Fierlinger wrote on 9/23/2019, 1:41 PM

We're talking with our IT at the moment, but yes I am logged in as Administrator and Owner. All my other Apps follow that but for some reason Vegas never acknowledges I am the administrator. This is the way Vegas has been for many versions back and this time I was attempting to do something about it and got nowhere. At the moment we're waiting for our IT to get back to us this evening. Thank you Musicvid for your interest in my stress.

There are a couple of "workarounds" that I've used, mostly successfully, in similar circumstances. Right click on the installation program (exe?) file, and clik "run as administrator" OR "take ownership." Also, "take ownership" of file folders that the application will use, i.e., Vegas Pro 17 folder in Programs, and in the AppData / Local and Roaming - both. Do a search for Vegas Pro and find other such "target folders. "|

I'm downloading now, ( big download, Magix: what's up? Samplitude uses a "targeted" update regimen, not a complete rewrite)..... I may end up doing just what I suggested to you.

Thanks zdogg; pretty much what we've already gone through but I'll pass your suggestions to our IT once he shows up. Thanks (othereise it's a great update.)

I downloaded, it would not allow update while Vegas is running (even though shut down, in task manager still shows up - thanks team, that never got addressed either, apparently, correct me if I'm wrong, but Hamburger menus, well, they get ALL the love.....shheeesh) and then went to look for the file that I wasted all that time allowing to download, and it is not on the computer, will have do "rinse and repeat." The S))t show that is Vegas continues......why????

Just a suggestion re updating.

Why, after closing out of Vegas Pro 17 (latest update), can I not reopen Vegas without restarting my computer?! Anyone experience this??

@mmish maybe this helps, disable "automatically open last project on startup" in the preferences.

thanks for your advice. I tried it, though, and it didn't change anything. I wonder if it has anything at all to do with my running the Vegas Pro 17 on Windows 8.1 Couldn't imagine why, though.

VPro 17 is made for W10.
Maybe you can try to install

and start Vegas P17

in comptability mode for W8

And the cause probably is that Vegas stays hanging in Memory, so to get a new Vegasstart clear that first through the taskmanager in the Background processes.
