Is $79 Black Friday deal for the Software or for a Subscription?

will-3 wrote on 11/7/2022, 5:21 PM

I've used Vegas since before Sony bought it from Sonic Foundry.

(I actually flew to LA from Florida to take a Vegas course by Douglas Spotted Eagle.)

I've produced a local TV series with Vegas as well as YouTube Videos and more.

Just updated from Version 13 to version 20 via the $79 Black Friday deal but then wondered...

My Question: Is this an equivalent update to my Vegas Pro 13 CD or is it a Subscription.

I'm really not interested in a subscription. I want the software.

Thanks for any help.

Looks like a purchase not a subscription to me.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

If your $79 purchase was an upgrade to Vegas Edit 20 then yes.

My CD Label says "Sony Vegas Pro 13 Application Disk"

So hopefully it is an update to that and not a subscription.

I'll install it tomorrow and try to report back to the group.

Thanks to both andyrpsmith and EricLNZ for their quick response.

As the product pages say, it's an upgrade, not a subscription.

"Information regarding the upgrade: You can upgrade at a reduced price with a previous version or other authorized product. Please have your login details or serial number ready"".

(The current purchase options are quoted in this comment.)

@will-3 I'm not so sure now. Wrongly assumed you had purchased a download. Didn't realise anyone bought CD versions nowadays. As for the CD label "Sony Vegas Pro 13 Application Disk" it doesn't make sense. You have purchased Vegas Pro Edit 20? From where did you purchase it?

vkmast wrote on 11/7/2022, 6:39 PM

Indeed. If the OP has actually got a "Sony Vegas Pro 13 Application Disk" when he purchased VEGAS Edit 20, something's wrong.

I think he means the version he is upgrading from was a Sony 13 CD, so yes, a new version should be an upgrade to that using that license number (subscriptions don't need an existing license).

vkmast wrote on 11/7/2022, 6:52 PM

@RogerS I did assume that he referred to the v.13 disc and certainly hope that is actually the case...

EricLNZ wrote on 11/7/2022, 7:06 PM

I also suspect the OP probably doesn't realise that "upgrade" is only a term for the pricing and the new VP20, if that's what has been purchased, is a complete separate programme. Both can reside on your pc.

The $79 VP20 Upgrade email I got is for Vegas 20 Edit. That is a one-time price for the standalone version, and is not a subscription.

Please note that the VP20 Edit upgrade does not include DVD Architect, so you may want to keep your existing version if you decide later to uninstall VP13 later.

Note that VEGAS DVD Architect (7), which MAGIX included with their VEGAS Pro instead of Sony DVD Architect Pro, is now also a discontinued product. The Sony Vegas Pro Edit sales packages did not include a version of DVD Architect. Neither do the MAGIX ones.

Where is DVD Architect? Black Friday I just upgraded from Sony vegas pro 13 to Magix vegas full package for $200 or somethign like that. Where is dvd architect? Did I miss something?

DVDA is discontinued. Older version will still work, but no more updates.

RogerS wrote on 12/13/2022, 6:50 PM

DVD Architect should still be there with your Vegas Pro 13 install and will still work. 20 doesn't come with it as DVDs are mostly dead and Magix now bundles more useful software with Vegas.

And, yet, I burn one (or more) DVDs every week! 😁

Keep the flame alive : ) I still find it disconcerting my computers don't have any optical drive.

@RogerS

My machines still have Blu-ray writers, they’re just powered down most of the time.

@john_dennis
A good idea.

Question: Where are the switches mounted? The mounting option suggests the back of the PC.
This would be the only possibility for me, since everything is installed at the front with removable drives (which can also be switched off), the Bluray drive and USB and sound sockets.

Problem is that I have to crawl under the desk every time I mount the switches in the back.

Any ideas?
