Is Sony Vegas 14 not compatible with datamoshed or tampered files?

I used Avidemux to datamosh a video and now trying to put it back into sony vegas to correct the audio it's giving me two seperate error whether I put the video as a .avi or .mp4. For .avi it's saying;An error occured while opening a codec. and after converting the avi to mp4 through VLC it's saying; The file is most likely corrupted or of an unknown format, it's a MP4. Is it an issue on my part or does sony vegas just not work with these kinds of files?

Edit: Re-converted it to MP4 and it's fine now

Both .avi and .mp4 are only containers for various forms of compressed video files. It is like wrapping up a present to someone to post. You wrap the contents up in a box or wrapping paper. What's inside can be a load of different video formats. In general Vegas will accept most types of video format inside an .avi or .mp4 but not all. You need to use something like https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo to look inside the wrapper. Then you can post the results which will be able to tell us what's inside that Vegas may not like.

datamoshed

I have edited video for 23 years and never before seen that term.

What's it mean?

@Musicvid Did you not do a search? There's plenty of info out there, for a start http://datamoshing.com/

@EricLNZ

No, I didn't do a search; now I know the reason why ...

Did this example in 2002 as part of a Pinnacle 5 tutorial using customized SpiceRack masks.

Does it qualify as "datamoshing?" One can be sure I didn't exactly call it that.

I guess this is the 2019 version of shakey cam.

Not surprised that Vegas doesn't like the Datamoshed files since the effect messes with the encoding of the B,I and P frames. 😖

@Musicvid your example looks like a dissolve using compositing effects, whereas datamoshing is purposely corrupting the encoding data of a video file in order to purposely create decoding errors like you'd expect to see from a satellite dish during a thunderstorm or a scratched DVD. It is an effect often used by VJs when creating visual shows. as said before, it is no wonder Vegas didn't want to open a file that was purposely corrupted.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of looking it up.

Vegas will open compliant Program Streams. Anything else is a crapshoot.
