Derek asked me to post here because he's not familiar with US television, and while I imagine I'll get a response about the time donkeys fly, here goes:
During a recent move, the computer containing my trusty version of Vegas 4.0 was stolen. The partner who handles IT for our station purchased a copy of Platinum Studio 14, thinking it would be the same thing.
Obviously, it wasn't. Everything you do on there is completely bassackward from the earlier versions of Vegas I had used. That was bad enough. Thankfully, I was referred to Derek, who did an amazing job of coaching me through the changes, so I now have some degree of comfort.
Sadly, this was only the beginning of my troubles.
Having finally gotten a project done, when I tried to render it as mpeg2 (still the standard in my end of the industry), there was no audio.
In the meantime, someone blessed me with a copy of Vegas 6.0, and I was able to re-render the audio back in. In polling my colleagues who use Vegas, every one of them told me they refuse to use anything newer than 7.0 for that reason. One does have 15, but only uses it for graphics.
The other issue I am having is that the more I render a project in 14, the more the end product deteriorates before my very eyes.
I have asked the (un)friendly folks at Vegas about this, and all they say is that they don't recognize the serial number, and refuse to discuss things further. Not my idea of customer service. Well, there you go. I have been (well, WAS) a satisfied customer since 2004. I was nominated for two regional Emmy Awards for work I've done using Vegas 4.0 and 6.0, so I'm not some rummy from the neighborhood.
Why Magix wants to treat long-time customers like me like garbage, I don't know. Hopefully, I'll live long enough to see a response to this.
If you actually read this, thanks.
