What is the most efficient video CODEC for Vegas Pro 17? One that requires the least processing power and playback super smooth with multiple tracks.

Beat me to it.

As I'm sure @aboammar

knows, the tradeoff for all that speed and efficiency is larger files.

I thought I'd try this to see what I could see and ran into an issue where audio exported using this target becomes choppy and unusable?
I did a quick search of the forum but didn't come across any discussions on this.
Any of you seen this happen with XDCAM?

What audio? Exported where? Got a sample? You know the drill.

@Musicvid Never mind, I had my default player set to VLC and apparently it doesn't like PCM format audio in an MP4 container. Everything else plays it just fine

Thanks @Marco.

I have 18 files and I intend to use Prism Plus v6.35 (NCH Software) to convert the video files, but I can't find XDCAM HD/EX in output formats! What should I do?

Copy the properties of xdcamEX and make an mpeg-2 or mts file in NCH?

They are not a secret.

+1 I use it quite a lot (pre render and test render), unfortunately it has no 1080p50.

You could try the ImportAssist tool in HappyOtterScripts that easily renders Mpeg-2 up to 3840x2160 at 50 or 60fps.

@aboammar

Just uploaded a new build (1.0.2.31) which now has 4K monitor support if you want to try it again. One of my beta testers uses a 4K monitor and from his feedback I was able to make changes to the UI to his satisfaction. Since HOS is no longer in beta, there is a 30 day trial. If you do try it, I would appreciate any comments concerning its suitability for 4K that you might have.

If you need multicam editing - use Proxy (I make 640x360 mpeg2 proxies for 6 cams). Also I tried HAP codec - fast for working but slow for encoding. Than render with the original files. Replacing proxys very easy with Vegasaur also.

Here's a link https://tools4vegas.com/trial/

Be advised that the dialogs for UHD are still not "perfect", although they should be usable. There is no option for adjusting the specific dpi you are using, but rather there's a button on each dialog which controls font size which seems to work reasonably well. I'm in the process of finally getting a UHD monitor, so hopefully any remaining bugs will be taken care of in the next build. Let me know if you experience problems.

@wwaag I just tried the plugin and unfortunately it still not useable to me as it does not fully support 4K monitors!

See screenshot here:

I would definitely buy it when it fully support high DPI mode.

@wwaag Great. Please let me know when 4K is fully supported.

Also take into consideration the different displays sizes and scale percentages. On my 15" 4K laptop, the scale is set to the recommended 250% and on my AIO workstation, it is set to %300.

Good luck..

K-lite Mega + Quicktime Lite + Grass Valley HQX Codec

After installing these three, Vegas Pro can import almost every common media excluding rm, rmvb, flv, parts of mkv.

Most flv and mkv (AVC/AAC decoded) can be losslessly converted to mp4 (AVC/AAC decoded) which can be imported to Vegas Pro.

@vkmast When you suspect codec pack caused problem, you just need to Ctrl+Shift and double-click Vegas to reset it. Problem will disappear.
