Multicam troublshooting, Audio and clip of one camera went out of sync

I am creating a video in which I am using 2 cameras. One camera was used for the entire video, and one was uses for specific portions of the video. I edited the main camera track which I called Camera 1, and the individual clips were called Camera 2. Once I had the Camera 1 track edited I began adding in and syncing Camera 2. Once everything was done, I created a Multicam track, enabled editing, and began. I also had Audio 1 and 2 tracks of which I only included Audio 1, as unfortunately we were having some audio issues and I needed both tracks to be audible. Everything was going fine, until I was about half way through. Audio 1 & 2 were synced fine, but Audio 2 and Camera 2 were not. Somehow Camera 2 had slipped out by about 2 or 3 seconds. When I watch the two Cameras it is obvious that Camera 2 is out of sync with Camera 1. I tried synchronizing which supposedly corrected itself, but Camera 1 & 2 are still out of sync. There is just now no red notice telling me I am out of sync. Is there a way I can get both my video tracks visible again, or how do I solve my out of sync videos?

I am using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17, Build 223, on Windows 10

Thanks, Mary

Is your camera 2 audio out of sync with camera 2 video, or is camera 2 out of sync with camera 1? Very confusing.

Your reference to "multicam" is specific to Vegas Pro, not Movie Studio.

No, I do not have Pro. Movie Studio 17 does have Multicamera. No my original audio was not out of sync, I was about half way through multicamera editing when one of the video clips (Camera 2) suddenly went out of sync with its audio by about 2 seconds. Before I started the multicamera editing, everything was in sync. My problem was that for some reason after going into multicamera mode Camera 2 video slipped by about 2 seconds, so it was no longer in sync with Camera 1 video. My Camera 1 Audio and Camera 2 Audio were still in sync with each other, but Camera 2 and Camera 2 Audio were no longer in sync with each other. Obvious by the fact that the subject of the video put his (up raised) arm down before he had put it up, for example.

For this project I back tracked all the multicamera editing, made a few adjustments, including grouping the entire project before starting multicamera, and started over.

What I would like to know for the future is there an easier way to solve this than starting over. Once starting with multicamera editing can I separate the two, or however many I have, combined tracks to edit a particular track if there is a similar type problem.

This is the first time I have used it, and once I got the hang of it, it wasn't too bad, However, having a video clip go out of sync is definitely a problem if there is not an easier way to solve it than start over.

Thanks, Mary

I'm terribly sorry, I did not know Movie Studio 17 had multicam editing.

In any event, I don't think you need it for two cameras.

The only reliable way I know to unbake a multicam track, once created, is with fresh copies of the timeline media. For that reason I always copy my source media to new tracks as a backup before creating the multicam track in Vegas Pro.

Actually in spite of having to undo about an hours worth of work and redo it, using multicam was much faster than having to sync and edit and piece together multiple tracks that I would have to wait until done to see if I had trimmed it in the right spot, and then going back and forth to lengthen one clip and shorten another, and hope I got it right. What I was able to do today in about 8 hours all told, would have taken me about 2 days a year ago without the hiccup. A year ago, I wouldn't have realized that an arm had been put down before it was put up until I had rendered it. Unfortunately, my computer is too slow to let me see it cleanly even on 'best' without rendering.

But going forward, I will create a file copy before starting.

Thanks, Mary

Glad you have found a workaround and a workflow that suits you. With big projects, "Save Early, Save Often" will often prevent hundreds of undo steps.

You can periodically find copies of Vegas Pro at ridiculous prices on Humble Bundle and Steam. There is an amazing tool available called AudioSyncR, which will do in a couple of hours what used to take me three weeks on projects like this.
