This year has been a bit of a train wreck, but I made it!

This photo is from my sister's time at the UCSC Predatory Bird Project, ca. 1978. My inscription was suggested by her notes on the nursery "surrogate," who, like the common brood hen, serves a special and self-fulfilling role in the flock society.

Hope a few enjoy, it is free for single copy personal use. I hope I don't see it on a greeting card rack someday.

I find ageing is like a Lithium-ion battery. Every morning when I wake after a recharge I have less capacity than the day before!

For me, it's more like trying to repair a '95 Chevy. Everything goes at once.
