Its what’s INSIDE that MP3 that’ll make the difference. So @iEmby , download MediaInfo and let it analyse your MP3 and get back here with your results.

I’m guessing (😉) that whatever is inside the MP3 Vegas isn’t DECODING it. However the WAV files are recognised and WILL decode it. Not all AUDIO files are created equal.

The MP3 codec requires "additional activation". See point 10 in the FAQs. Is the machine connected to the internet? What is your firewall situation?

The MP3 codec requires "additional activation".

So, in the past, with VP15, when I've done an MP3 Render VP would have activated the CODEC? And this, of course, would have been through me being on the INTERNET.

Reading through this thread I wonder what exactly the problem is.

iEmby - what do you mean by "stop detecting mp3 files"? Are you trying to play them from timeline or media pane? Or are you looking for them in the Explorer window? Do mp3 files which previously played okay now no longer do so?

I believe so, the first time you decode or encode MP3 in each version. A grey window of this style pops up:

Hi There. I have Movie Maker 15, and had this exact problem, screeching noise of MP3 files I was able to add to a project. The fix: Using VLC media player, I was able to convert all the MP# files I will use for projects into WAV files. These all pay back fine inside any Movie Maker 15 project. Here are the steps...

1) Open VLC Media Player

2) Open “Media”

3) Scroll down to and click on “Convert/Save...”

4) Click on “Add”

5) Find Audio file you want to add to the project and click on it, then click on “Open”

6) Click on “Convert/Save”

7) The setting should be set to “Covert” and “Audio CD”

8) Click on the Wrench Icon (VERY Important!) – This will take you to a file type selection page…

If it’s not already checked, Click on “WAV” file.

- You will also see that “Audio” will have a green check next to it.

- Click “Save”

9) On “Destination File,” click “Browse”

- You will see the file name in the box. Keep the name, but add the number 1 to it. Or name it something else, just so it is different from the original file you are converting! This designation I am using for all my audio files that are NOW being made compatible with the Movie Maker program.

10) Click “Start.” That starts the conversion, which should take no time at all (based on file size, of course).

File is now ready for adding to your Movie Maker 15 project!

@Chris-Tringali by "Movie Maker" are you referring to some version of the VEGAS Movie Studio product line?

Musicvid wrote on 4/6/2020, 9:53 PM

Movie Maker is a Windows app.

Chris-Tringali wrote on 4/7/2020, 7:59 AM

Musicvid - No, it is not a windows app.

And neither is it Sony Movie Studio 15 because Sony sold the product to MAGIX many versions/years ago.

Thanks @Chris-Tringali for clarifying. Please note that there's no "Sony" versions of the VEGAS Movie Studio product line after v.13. From v.14 on they all come from MAGIX.

(Actually "Windows Movie Maker (known as Windows Live Movie Maker for the 2009 and 2011 releases) is a discontinued video editing software program by Microsoft." There is no VEGAS Movie Maker.)

Chris-Tringali wrote on 4/7/2020, 4:51 PM

Type a search for Vegas Movie Maker and tell me that again... 😄

vkmast wrote on 4/7/2020, 5:21 PM

@Chris-Tringali

And https://web.archive.org/web/20160630020014/http://download.sonycreativesoftware.com:80/current/

(no Movie Maker)

Unfortunately some of the (e.g.) YouTube tutorial makers don't know the title of the software.

Chris-Tringali wrote on 4/8/2020, 8:21 AM

That's all well and good, until you try to find video/tutorials on problems by typing "Movie Maker" as a qualifier. This fix I found? I got both of them - using VLC, and using Ctrl + Shift while I boot up the program, were both given to me under the guise of fixing a problem in Vegas Pro!

Re:

I did a search and found Vegas Movie Maker, but it is a program sold by www.iskysoft.us, not MAGIX. Perhaps a company selling a product trading off Vegas' reputation.

Using "Movie Maker" as a qualifier isn't likely to find "Movie Studio" (a VEGAS product) related answers. If you don't like to use the Search feature (Find...) of this forum, search this site on Google:
Precede your search with "site:www.vegascreativesoftware.info" and use the date options under "Tools". (E.g. site:www.vegascreativesoftware.info movie studio) (This FAQ)

FYI as well.

and @Dexcon as I implied in a previous comment of mine one can't always trust even the Internet ;)
