New VP19 Update, painfully slow download.

Reyfox wrote on 12/20/2021, 5:24 AM

I opened VP19 to be greeted with an update message! Great! I read what was done, what bugs were fixed and started the 744MB download from within VP.

Ouch... I had faster dialup than this.

But looking forward to using the update. Is there a faster place to download this?

I installed the update (as administrator) on a Win11 PC, but after the install the version stays on build 424 instead of 458. A reboot nor a new update install does help.

I'm on Win10 and still waiting and waiting and waiting for the download to finish.

Have you tried the Video FX search function to see if it now works as it should?

On a recent update, I commented on the forum about how sluggish the download was - about 2 hours +. Ditto now. And my internet DL speed is around 50+ Mbps.

@Dexcon mine is 350Mbps download. It's finally done and installed. No issues, but the Search function for VideoFX, etc is still like it was before. It takes a long time for the first letter to appear. And like before, after the first "load" of the FX, it's fine. So it's not fixed in this Build 548.

Now for those release notes... I read them quickly and my one functioning brain cell had to make room for something else...

@Reyfox  ... 350 Mbps - I can only dream of that. When Australia originally envisaged fibre internet, it was to be 'fast', but then there was a change of government who decided for budgetary reasons that fibre to the modem would be too expensive and downgraded the project to fibre to nodes with the final connection to the home/business being by aging copper telephone wire or by cable for those who had cable TV (luckily including me). As with many government decisions in Australia to save money, the change of plan actually significantly increased the project's cost to achieve a much lower quality result for the consumer.

If I recall correctly, New Zealand trialed fibre internet in Dunedin (a terrific city) a couple of years ago with fibre internet at up to 1,000 Mbps.

The maximum DL speed in Australia is currently around 100 Mbps from any provider.

Less than 20 minutes to download (Northern Europe, my nominal 100Mbps). Chose to "install when the program is closed". Auto-installed VP 19 build 458 with no trouble after that. (Win 10)

Reyfox wrote on 12/20/2021, 6:48 AM

@vkmast do you possibly know when the release notes will be available? Once the download started from within the software, the only thing left was to cancel, and I was already at 20%....

@Dexcon I get get 1GB here where I live, but it really won't help that much since a lot of the sites where I have to download large files would not make use of all that speed in the "here and now". When I first got here to Poland, we had DSL... 2.5Mbps. UGH! Your speed is fine if I had to live with it.

vkmast wrote on 12/20/2021, 7:07 AM

@Reyfox if you mean available on the forum, I'd expect pretty soon (in a couple hours) as the Madison WI US office hours begin..

Still slow...

Reyfox wrote on 12/20/2021, 7:39 AM

@DeTomasi yeah.... still slow..... 😒

The first time a search is started, it's like VP has to now catalog all the FX before it will work. I can type in a full name of a Video FX and it will only "remember" the first letter. But once everything has been done, it's ok. Still not what I want though.

Anybody know where Vegas puts the downloaded installation file? My download completed but on installation I got a message saying something like the update was incompatible? Is this okay with Windows 11? Anyway I'd like to find the file so I don't have to download it again if anyone knows where it might be located after download?

Former user wrote on 12/20/2021, 11:18 AM

Download took approx 50mins, search in fx window is still slow on first search, it's not super slow but still slow, I've closed & opened a few times now & it's like @Reyfox says 'like VP has to now catalog all the FX before it will work', does it not create a cache or temp file list from when it was opened before. ?

It is named "VEGASUpdate.exe" in "C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\19.0". It will be deleted auto after installing it.

We are looking into the slow download issue right now. In general, as we get into later updates for any VP release, the burden on the download server is greatly increased upon the release of an update due to the fact that we have a significantly higher number of users for that release as it matures. Also, VP 19 specifically has more users than our previous releases, so that has increased the load even more. We are looking into better, more modern options for download services to hopefully make the process much less painful in the future, but we are probably several months (or more) away from being able to deploy this.

Congestion on certain parts of the backbone are actually worse than they were last year at this time.

Just snagged this from Downdetector.

And this from Pingdom.
