Optimum Render settings

Sargan wrote on 7/6/2022, 6:32 AM

I have been looking to find optimum render settings for FB/Youtube

Using format Magic AVC/AAS mp4 and the template Internet HD1080p xxx

I have a couple of Q's .... first on bit-rate

Having watched a few on-line tutorials it was saying set: variable bit rate to:

Max bps 100,000,000 Avg bps 80,000.000

With added comment that Max bit-rate could be set to match source video bit-rate (setting higher gives bigger files but no extra quality) ..... how do I tell what that is ? I attach MediaInfo for one of my video clips, can you tell what is my bit-rate from that ?

By defulat the template is set to 24,000,000 / 12,000,000

2nd Q ...

Once Bit-rate is decided ... what fps should I use.

My source video is 60 fps, should I encode to 29.74 or as I am in Europe set to PAL of 25fps .......... some sources advise Internet is set to use 29.97 so to avoid resampling best to use that ?

Which Vegas program and buildnumber are you using to edit that video?

Sorry didn't think that mattered - assumed this was a generic Q

It's MS Platinum 16 (Build 175)

Use the render template shown below as it is, although depending on your system you may have GPU available for rendering.

Is VBR going to be better than CBR for the internet ? Just on a point of education for me.

I have GPU option but it does not show on the Magic AVC/AAV mp4 templates ( but does sow under options on Sony AVC/MVC)

EricLNZ wrote on 7/7/2022, 4:53 AM

VBR/CBR - VBR is probably preferable but your videos will be reprocessed by YouTube and presumably also by FB, and you have no control over what they do.

GPU option - use a similar template with Sony AVC/MVC.

Appreciate no control over what they do, but trying to find out what the optimum conditions are ..... minimising what they do to the video. Such as is 29.97fps what they will use, and if it is then I might ass well render to that in first place.

@Sargan you were given good advice by Eric and DrZen on that other forum where you also asked.

Sargan wrote on 7/7/2022, 6:21 AM

Asked in other forums as well .... just want to get it right.

What started the Q is 2 Youtube videos where guys were saying to set VBR to 100,000,000 which gives huge file sizes, so its worth getting the facts - hence my question. Not seen a reponse by Dr.Zen yet .... I'll go look

EricLNZ wrote on 7/7/2022, 6:37 AM

@Sargan Be wary of some of the videos you view online. You will get more reliable facts here on this forum and from knowledgeable users like Dr Zen.

Exactly why I asked here :-)

I'm not clear what that graph is telling me

That graph seem to imply whatever you upload (above 40Mbps) the download file will remain at 40 Mbps ? .... o

This was what I found on one Video Streaming site ....

>>>

Well, here's the bitrates YouTube compression to if the source is higher then what YouTube supports:

2160p - (4K) 44–56 Mbps / 66–85 Mbps (60fps)

1440p - (2K) 20 Mbps / 30 Mbps (60fps)

1080p - 10 Mbps / 15 Mbps (60fps)

720p - 6.5 Mbps / 9.5 Mbps (60fps)

Depending on what resolution you're aiming for, aim to render for the compression rates +5mbps. I can't imagine it's different for Facebook. If you're okay with file large file sizes; maintain a constant bitrate, instead of variable for the best quality.

Youtube recommends 8mbps for 1080p30 and 12mbps for 1080p60. So I would assume somewhere 10-15 would be fine for youtube. You could upload as 30mbps but youtube will automatically lower the bitrate.

I'm not clear what that graph is telling me

The graph shows that 4K 50p video encoded at 40-100 Mbps and uploaded to Youtube all gets reprocessed to about 18Mbps (VP9).

The compelling implication is that the tail does not wag the dog.

Your video is generic 1080 p60 at 27Mbps. It will come back from Youtube less than that, maybe about half?

You will not gain one ounce of anything but fat by re-encoding at a delivery format bitrate above 30Mbps, either for Youtube or in your living room. This is fundamental and begs no speculation, the advice of internet alchemists notwithstanding.

Rule #1: You want to render your video at a quality comparable to your source, without going overboard.

Rule #2: Youtube will degrade the quality of the video you send it.

Rule #3: There is nothing you can do about Rule #2.
