Preview Window really laggy

dorian wrote on 5/1/2018, 4:08 AM

I have tried a number of things to get the laggy preview window from performing better. Though I have got it somewhat better the biggest issue is a transition between two videos, it gets really laggy there.

I am running a new MSI laptop with 16GB Ram Solid State Drive, GTX 1060 and I7

Things I have done

1. Changed the preview to half or quarter
2. Turn off GPU Acceleration (set it to none)
3. Disabled Resample Mode
4.SET enable multi stream render to true

These things have made it better but it always gets laggy between two video clips and though it is smoother during a video it still does lag from time to time where it freezes up, you can still hear the sound but the video has slowed down and needs to catch up

Frustrating... I have watched several YouTube videos n it and they all kinda say the same thing as above... I need more RAM? will that help

What format are you using and how was it created? This is very important.

Try going through this troubleshooting guide for smooth playback if you haven't already: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-make-my-video-preview-play-smoothly-in-vegas-pro--104624/

If that doesn't work, you can also try tweaking some internal preferences described in this comment and the one 2 below it, but beware that this could make your system unstable and have other undesired consequences, so proceed very carefully and don't just change all those things at once. Access internal preferences by holding SHIFT while you click Preferences. If changes don't help, set them back to defaults.

What version of vegas are you using? Versions 12 through 14 @Nick Hope already listed above what should be done. If it is version 15 of Vegas disable So4Compoundplug.

If the troublesome files are getting decoded by so4compoundplug.dll then you can try disabling it as follows:

1.Hold down the SHIFT key while opening Options > Preferences

2.Click the Internal tab

3.In the field "Show only pref containing:" file type "So4" without the quotes

4.Set "Enable So4 Compound Reader for AVC/M2TS" to FALSE.

5.OK > Restart

but it always gets laggy between two video clips

That means that your system cannot render the transitions fast enough for real time preview.

Since you've got plenty of memory, try a selective RAM Prerender at the transitions and effects.

I will try that, I am on the latest version of 15

thanks for the advice, I am a little new to Vegas, how exactly do I do this setting up the RAM prerender at the transition effects, the transition I am presently talking about is when one overlaps the end of one clip with the beginning of another to have that smoother flow from one clip to the other, looks fine in the video if u render the whole thing out, just very choppy in the preview window

See point 10 in Nick's link in his comment above.
