Quicktime codec not loading

Deuce wrote on 2/6/2019, 2:52 PM

I just moved Vegas Pro 16 to my new computer (deactivated and reactivated) and it's running fine but when I try to load a previous project it's not loading the Quicktime .mov files. When I opened the old project I had to point it to the new file locations since my drive letters had changed but after the project loads it gives an error that not all files were loaded (which happens to be the .mov files).

When I checked my Render As codecs I noticed Quicktime is missing so somehow the QT codec never got installed? What's going on and how do I get the QT codec installed now? I can't even preview QT files in Vegas. If I recall, when I installed Vegas on my old computer it automatically activated the QT codec the first time I used a .mov file.

You may have had the Apple qt7plug.dll on your old machine. You shouldn't need it with VP16.

When you locate the actual .mov files, provide the information:

Not sure what you mean by "When you locate the actual .mov files, provide the information"?

I installed the Quicktime player and now .mov works in Vegas.

That blue color is a given link how you have to do such.

Can you see the actual files in a Windows folder, or are they still lost?

Did you by chance cross-post while I was searching for the link to provide information? Going forward, try to give it a few minutes.

The FAQ on .mov.

Like I mentioned, the issue was resolved as soon I I installed the Quicktime player. I guess Vegas uses the codec from the player.

You should not require an obsolete, slow 32 bit Apple .dll in Vegas 16 to open your .mov file,

That is why you were asked for full file properties, which should reveal the cause of the deficiency.

But, if you consider it resolved, I will lay down my concern, and wish you the best of luck.

For @Musicvid +1

And a warning installing an old Quicktime installer.
That program is since more than 2 years not supported by Apple anymore because it became very vulnerable after the end of 2015 and that can mean a danger for your computer.

There should be no threat to your computer from installing Quicktime, provided you don't use the Quicktime Player to view suspicious files. You can do this by never using the player, by removing any file associations to the Quicktime Player, or you can simply rename the 'QuickTimePLayer.dll' and the player will not load, but the required Quicktime files will enable Vegas Pro to read and load the stuborn files.

However, using the Quicktime resources may cause you unwanted color/contrast shifts and or other issues as it is still on a 32 bit program.

I think you would be better off to convert those files, or use an alternative import method such as Happy Otter Import Assist, so you are not dependent on Quicktime. Just my thoughts.
