Sorry if I missed this, but what is your Windows text scaling set at? 125% is good, 150% is going to cause weirdness, not just with Vegas.

I'm a seasoned Vegas user too, as many of you know... and my render dialog in VP18 also is gone now. Rendering completes fine, but no box to cancel/close, or see the awesome new rendering stats.

NOTE: I haven't tried any resets but am wondering if there's a preference/option/hotkey to enable/disable the advanced rendering dialog? I do have the progress bar show at the bottom of the screen, the frame counter in the Video Preview moves along and the render works fine.. just that status window appears to be gone.

(And since it's not a doc-able window that means it's not hiding anywhere in the GUI, right?)

I just tried turning on Vegasaur "render assistant", and surprisingly, no Render Assistant render dialog appears either when rendering a simple test project with noise generator on it?! Turned off Render Assistant -- still nothing.

Again -- rendering works. Frame counter on preview moves. Progress bar on bottom-left of Vegas appears.. but no render dialog box.

?????? Maybe related to Windows update?

Does your lower window pane show the audio recording time left?

RedRob-CandlelightProdctns wrote on 7/1/2021, 1:32 PM

Indeed it does (not that I've ever noticed that LOL)

  • main Vegas window is non-modal (can move it around)
  • Status bar on bottom-left of that window
  • Frame counter moves along in preview window (not seen in this screen-shot since I have the preview on a 2nd monitor)

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood.

Maybe the render progress window is hidden behind the Vegas Pro main GUI. But if so I'd have no idea how to get it back on top. There's not even an internal setting to disable that kind of render dialog.

Render Assistant doesn't create additional render dialogs, it just displays the icon in the taskbar with a few commands.

ah, OK. I recalled that prior to Vegas 18 when I'd tried it, enabling Render Assistant allowed me to move the rendering dialog around when that otherwise couldn't be done, so it appeared to somehow hook into the render dialog API, which is why I explored that avenue.

Still the same behavior.. no dialog. I tried resetting the window layout to the default layout.. no difference.

RedRob-CandlelightProdctns wrote on 7/8/2021, 2:36 PM

Hey @RogerS -- thanks for that tip.. I may check it out. Truth be told though -- I'd really just like the built-in Vegas18 dialog to show up again -- it doesn't appear on my laptop either. I loved that it told me not only the stats as it rendered, but also that it told me when it completed and how long it took at the end.

When things just.. vanish .. or stop working, I like to know why, and at report it so it can get fixed.

@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns, did you ever look under the task bar as was suggested? Usually when a window "disappears", the top of it is under the task bar (and the rest is off the screen). You can set the task bar to auto hide temporarily to see if it is there or temporarily change the screen to a higher resolution and try rendering to see if it's at the bottom of the screen.

RedRob-CandlelightProdctns wrote on 8/11/2021, 10:32 AM

Thanks for the reminder @jetdv/Ed! Alas, my task bar is set to auto-hide.. not there. Turned off Vegas status bar and toolbar too, just to see.. nothing there.

For actual Windows-based windows, in the past when they've been practically off-screen I've had success using the Ctrl-Spacebar/M trick to open their top-left menu and enter "move" mode, and then use arrows and the mouse to finish the movement and get them back to a useable position. Not helpful in this case as Ctrl-Space only opens that menu on the main Vegas window. Just checked and my window is already at its max resolution, 100% font scaling.

Here's another thing -- when it was working properly, the dialog would stay on the screen when the render was complete. Now, when the render is complete it goes right back to the main Vegas window... you'd think if the render dialog was up (but hidden) focus wouldn't go back to the main screen automatically.
