Rendering Issues

Hello,

I'm a former Vegas Pro 14 User, who has been using Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum over the past 6 months, due to budget constraints, and am finally fed up with the rendering issues. Every time I've gone to render on my last few video projects, it has froze consistently and made it so I have to keep going back to the spots it's freezing and get rid of or adjust the transitions I'm using (most of the time it's a simple 60 frame crossfade.) Since switching to recording in 3840x1080p (one 1920 is my webcam, the other my computer screen) I've had to do this at least 8 different times per 20-30 minute video meaning it took me over 26 hours of trial and error to get my last video to render.

Because of this I have looked everything up online and tried all the reddit forum troubleshooting suggestions and even youtube suggestions and nothing still works. I've been contemplating going to Adobe but it's super expensive. I saw that Vegas 19 has a free trial and downloaded it but it won't let me render anything over 2 minutes long, which is understandable, but doesn't reassure me that I won't have problems in the future.

Did anyone else have these issues on previous iterations of Vegas softwares? If so, were these fixed in 19? Is there a money back guarantee if I buy the fully licensed version and it continues to do this? I'll post my VMS 17 Plat rendering settings attached and be following this post.

My Hardware: I9700K, 3080ti, 32GB DDR4,

Regarding "a money back guarantee" please see https://www.magix.com/us/terms-and-conditions/ especially I. § 3 and (re subscriptions) II. § 2.

@D.Griffin Hi. I wouldn't expect you to have much problem with that PC, although i do empathize with you, V19 doesn't play transitions well on my PC first time around, even simple crossfades stutter fractionally first time & need to loop play once or twice before full playback is established. I too have tried all settings, I notice the difference because i have other software, one is a cheap Magix Edit program, that plays 4k transitions fluidly first time no prob, so although it prob won't be agreed or acknowledged on this forum but Vegas does need a major update in it's engine to keep up with other software that's available.

I'm curious tho 3840 x 1080? so does your project look like this? (double width 1920x1080)

Your problems with 'last few video projects' might be due to V17 + whatever format your new media is? if you've just swapped recently to something different from the old format you were using before. ?

PS, despite what i say above, Vegas is my first choice, i like the layout, workflow & functions, I live in hope of the major upgrade one day.

Try using a software encoder.

It's either a media issue or could be a GPU encoding issue. VP 19 did fix a problem where the dynamic ram preview buffer caused issues with GPU renders.

If you are using variable framerate or other troublesome media (wrong headers, etc.) it may still have issues in 19 but re-encoding or remuxing could solve your issue. Supplying MediaInfo is where I'd start: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

From what Ive heard previously Magix don't offer any warranty on their products, only 14 days to people in EU countries as they are compelled to do so by law.

@Former user  Why 3840x1080 is so i can move my webcam around on my recordings based on what's happening. It makes effects a lot cooler when I'm showing the screens and if I have a static webcam over my recordings in OBS and forget to move my webcam when something happens in the bottom left corner I'm not screwed. It keeps both the screen and webcam at better quality as well. As far as actually editing. I just opened up a previous .vf file I had edited with VMS 17 Plat on Vegas 19 (trial) and it too froze and crashed the program while watching it at Best Full quality, that's not a good sign. Then again, the only way I was able to edit videos of this size on VMS 17 was to create proxies for the videos. I'm still mad that my computer which is a beast (could have a better CPU but it should still be plenty fine) freezes while watching high quality preview (the whole program crashes) and then freezes while rendering at the beginning of a transition, Example: keeps freezing at 8% rendered I go to the frame it froze on and it's the start of a transition. Freezes there 3 more times until I adjust the transition or completely remove it. I too really enjoy the editing process on Vegas (started with Vegas 13 on a friends computer and bought 14 for myself like 8 years ago) and would prefer not to switch to a different software but it's taking me 30 hours to do 30 minute projects right now.

@RogerS While using VMS 17 Plat one of the "fixes" I was told about was to change that to 0, I tried that with no luck. I've tried all the way from 0 to 50% of my 32 GB of RAM dedicated while previewing and no matter what number I used they all crashed while trying to watch especially on Best Full, the only way to get even preview or draft to work is to create proxies. What percentage of my RAM dedicated do you suggest I use? I just opened a .vf of a previous project that I was working on in VMS 17 but on Vegas 19 and I had 8000mb or 25% of my RAM dedicated to it and it still crashed instantly on Best Full. Which makes me think it's still not the right product for me. One thing that drives me crazy about this product is that once it freezes it never recovers and will sit there saying (Not Responding.)

@Musicvid Do you have any further information on that? I'm pretty new to the editing scene and took a big break while attending college and don't know exactly what that means.

Thank you all for the responses even the ones I didn't tag, I really appreciate all the feedback. Anything further would still really help!

GPU hardware mp4 templates have QSV, NVENC, or AMD(?) written next to them. Software encoders do not.

D.Griffin wrote on 4/6/2022, 10:01 PM

@Musicvid Oh yeah, I know that. Sorry I don't know why I wasn't putting that together. Why would I use software encoding when I could be using NVENC with a 3080ti? I'll attach my render settings that I forgot to on the main page.

Musicvid wrote on 4/6/2022, 10:44 PM

Because GPU encoders and some graphics driver versions have a long history of implication in render errors, especially during transitions and other generated media.

RogerS wrote on 4/6/2022, 10:46 PM

For how much ram to dedicate to the dynamic ram preview buffer- start with the default and then maybe go up to 10% of system ram? Turn it down to 0MB to do a NVENC render. Why would you do a software render? Because NVENC isn't working for you and there's a bug in Vegas before VP 19.

Also try the latest drivers for an iGPU if you have one enabled and the latest NVIDIA Studio Driver for your GPU.

Beyond that, carefully consider your OBS settings for compatibility with Vegas. Set keyframe interval from 0 (auto) to 1 or 2 and check the rest of the settings carefully as well. If you give Vegas media it likes you won't have so many crashes or freezes.

This all sounds incredibly complicated. I've got two rendering jobs that need doing to a deadline a bit more than 24 hours away and I wasn't expecting this disaster of not being able to render the videos. Would anyone on this thread like to earn a little by rendering it for me? It's been done on Vegas 17 Pro, which I've owned for ages and done a few videos on before without any issues. Though god forbid it doesn't feel too "pro" right now!

RogerS wrote on 12/28/2024, 9:24 PM

@Jennifer-Pearce I don't see you earlier on this thread. Are you having a problem with rendering? If so please start your own thread.

Jennifer-Pearce wrote on 12/28/2024, 9:34 PM

No I wasn't here before. I came in to get some ideas on how to fix rendering problems with my Vegas 17 and came across this thread? Well... that feels a bit mean. I'll pick up my bundle and leave...

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 12/28/2024, 11:41 PM

@Jennifer-Pearce Nothing mean was said to you. The issue is that you have responded to a discussion that is two years old, without any information as to what exact problem you are having.... That's why you were informed to start your own thread, with your issue, for a faster solution.

RogerS wrote on 12/29/2024, 12:52 AM

@Jennifer-Pearce No offense was intended but please do create your own thread so we can help you and understand your specific situation.

It's fine to link back to previous threads but this one is quite old and people are discussing VEGAS Movie Studio 17 and VEGAS Pro 19 which isn't even the same software you are using.
