Sony Vegas Architect: The video/audio will be compressed

tvsmvp wrote on 10/28/2018, 12:37 PM

Using Sony Vegas Architect specifically...

When I try to burn to disk, warning appear that each of the videos will be compressed, ("The video __ will be compressed"). I'm getting the same thing for audio, ("The audio on track __ will be compressed"). Note that this video was first created in Architect - I've never used the Vegas editing program.

The videos used to create the disk are mp4, 29.97 frame rate, 1920x1080. (Audio: Bitrate: 317 kbps), sample rate: 48.000 kHz)

What does this mean? Is there a way to prevent this - and would I want to? Can it safely be ignored?

SPECS:

Program: Sony Vegas Architect, build 84

Are you importing the mp4 into DVDA directly? If so, then yes it has to be compressed.

I imported directly. Would I get better quality (noticeable) if I first brought the file into Vegas Pro and ran it through that? Or will Architect doing a similar (quality) job if I simply allow it to do it automatically when creating a disk - ?

You have more control over the parameters when using Vegas Pro to create your DVD ready files. DVDA does not allow you to adjust bitrate. Does not mean that it is any better or worse.

Use the dvda mpeg-2 video template and Dolby AC3 audio template in Vegas. That's two renders, but they won't recompress.

The online Help (F1) in your (MAGIX VEGAS) DVD Architect build 84 includes the item "Media file settings for DVD projects", which confirms the advice that the two seasoned contributors above regularly post here. The text may be more up to date in comparison to the similar article in Vegas Pro 16 online Help.

When I open the "Render As" dialogue box (Movie Studio 15.0 Platinum > Project > Render As), I find the dvda mpeg-2 video template (select "MainConcept MPEG-2" under "Formats") listed there (as "DVD Architect NTSC video stream") -- but I can't seem to find the correct audio template. Selecting "Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio in the left only offers "Stereo DVD" (and "Stereo DVD. AGC on) -- but those templates don't offer 5.1 Surround (48,000 Hz; 448 Kbps). Should I select that template and then alter it someplace...?

In Project menu > New did you choose Audio 5.1 Surround?

As you see, the current AC-3 version in Vegas does not allow customizing the templates.

A-ha! No, I didn't - because I didn't create a new project; I had just gone in to poke around. I do see that now -- and thank you all for your great advice. Thanks!
