"start all new projects with these settings" doesn't work

I want every new project to start with a custom template I set in project properties because I found a checkbox that says "start all new projects with these settings." But every time I start a new project, it takes me to the "new project" window and doesn't show my template. when I go into project properties again, the "start all new projects with these settings" is unchecked for some reason.

I think you missed a step.

You must give your custom template a unique name and save it. You cannot overwrite the stock templates with your own settings.

I have given about 6 different unique names, some longer, some shorter. They all show up under the pull down tab in the custom template window. None of them show up when I go back to the render window.

You want a custom Project template to show up in the Render Presets?

They are at the opposite ends of the earth. Create a custom Render preset if you wish. They are cheap.

As @Musicvid advises. From VMSP 17 online Help: "Custom rendering templates - If the selected file type supports it, the Render As dialog allows you to create custom templates for saving files."

I'm a new user myself, I think this is a common misunderstanding. Where/what is the relationship, if any, between

the project settings and render settings explained ?
