Taking my annual sabbatical

Musicvid wrote on 11/13/2021, 10:01 PM

The holiday "spirit" has arrived right on time this year, and it's even nastier than last year. At 72, I have more than enough less-painful pursuits to see me through the Solstice. See you all in January; I'll post a little research and testing on the Off-Topic forum at my convenience, and continue looking into improvements for developing the program. As far as playing the role of the Straw Man, I outgrew it some time back.

This forum is not social media, nor is it middle school. Just in case you're a new user reading this and scratching your head, and you are seeking help, here is the place to start. Reluctant learners need not apply.

On the other hand, if all you want is attention that you're not getting at home or from your community, you might want to check in here:

Our Vegas developers, moderators, and veteran users deserve sainthood; I've never quite made the grade with the patience thing, and there's a damned good reason they put career educators out to pasture at age 64½. God Bless, and keep doing the good work.

@Musicvid - O..K…?

@Musicvid - Yeah, patience is over rated, especially as it takes such a long time coming 😉

God Bless, and keep doing the good work.

Regards,

@Musicvid - You is a perfect Gent! Gonna miss yah, till January then? (😉)

Toodle-Pip, Grazie.

@Musicvid
I still wish you many pleasant hours and relaxation in your time out.
If you want to come back sooner - you are very welcome and read here by more than you think.
Don't forget the many who read along here without making superfluous comments, and benefit immeasurably from your immense experience.
I just wanted to say that.

Cheers
Walter

Don't forget the many who read along here without making superfluous comments,

Yes, and my overreactions of late have regrettably resulted in a couple of annoyances among the undeserving. The fires will burn from Madison to München this winter -- technology has become sustenance for the homebound and those who still hunger for knowledge during the post-Cov2 societal recovery.

Meanwhile, I've got some serious rehabbing to do; only a couple of you know that I lost my sight due to a concussion in July, 2021, only to have it return slowly through the miracles of 21st century medicine. My grandfather, who lived and worked as a merchant and humanitarian among the Native American (Yanktoni) Sioux from the end of the 1918 flu pandemic through the 1930s, wasn't so lucky (cataracts). Here is an historic photo taken by his friend Frank B. Fiske, a journalist and studio photographer at Standing Rock Reservation and a contemporary of Edward Curtis. For those who don't know, parasitic infections were still a leading cause of blindness among Native Americans at that time.

If I constantly remind myself of that humility, I might still become a better teacher of photoimaging, one of a couple of parallel careers that began exactly fifty years ago. Meanwhile, my piano chops have been seriously neglected...

Until then,

Rehab and recover quickly. I at times suffer from burnout and lack of creativity. I too need to take time off, so I understand the "need" you have.

Enjoy the holidays with family and friends. Swift recovery in your ailments, and I look forward to reading your posts/replies in the new year!

Welcome back when you feel you're ready again to keep saints and sinners here alerted and aware (and maybe occasionally annoyed, which is a small price to pay for your experience here. You know you won't get those pizza coupons though.🙂.)

Well, not as long as you keep pulling rabbits out of hats, and nailing solutions without any obvious clues (I gotta get my crystal ball back from the cleaners). Just what triggered the revelation about that obscure Nahimic bug anyway? I swear, you just keep getting better with age.

And the longer I'm here, the harder it is for me to stop posting cold turkey when I get cranky. I've got plenty of controlled testing of new features to do, and I'll still share those in the relative sanctity of the OT place. It's the schoolyard sparring and king-of-the-hill contests that I've lost total interest in (dangling preposition noted).

Have a great and relaxing time during the next few months @Musicvid . Your input and incredible knowledge and experience is so much appreciated.

BTW ...

It's the 'dangling modifiers' you really have to watch out for though.

Cheers.

Ooh, you are good. Touche'!

But what about those dangling adverb / conjunctions?

But what about those dangling adverb / conjunctions?

OMG. While writing that comment, the grammar isn't quite good enough but (tic 😉🙂🙂🙂)

Way up north in the 'interesting' state of Queensland (maybe too much humidity in Qld), the locals are renowned for adding 'but' to the end of many sentences, but.

We Midwesterners do the same thing, but often written with trailing ellipses to add a sense of mystery or incompletion of thought; e.g., "They keep telling us that professional wrestling is faked, but..."

I bet the real semanticist here is biting his tongue waiting for an opportune moment to jump in. My grammar has gone downhill since losing my visual concentration, and it seems to come back when my sight is better.

The Norwegian side of my family has a long history of hyperlexia, some of them senators, trivia buffs, and shameless scam artists.
