Under the impression that video capture was aimed at firewire 1394. Any software with cameras that will download files to pc. Storage on cameras tape or sd card?
Am I able to video capture when the DV is connected via USB or HDMI or does the software require the device to be via firewire? New laptop does not have firewire port. Thanks for your response
If your camcorder has firewire then your computer needs firewire. This can be added to a pc but not to a laptop. If you record to tape then almost certain that firewire needed. What does camera manual say. What camera model reference.
Thanks, I have a Canon HF R70 and a Canon Rebel T6 DSLR. Both have HDMI and USB out ports. Neither has firewire. I've tried both ways with each device and the program does not detect them. I'm wondering if I can configure the software to point to one of both of those inputs?
Just checked Canon's website on your HF R70 camcorder. Like the T6, they both use SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards, which are removed, then copied to your computer via a Card Reader.
Additionally, your camcorder, according to Canon's site specifications, has 16GB of internal memory. That would be transferred to your computer via the USB cable, that should "theoretically" been supplied with the camera during purchase.
You will need to check the manual for the camcorder, or just download the manual (I'd suggest doing the same for the specifications pdf as well) from Canon's site. Tis time for you to do that RTFM homework!
Thanks Chief24. I savvy RTFM, lol Was really hoping to control the cameras from within the program so that "record" was a one step process to the internal drive as it was before with my Sony "Digital 8" camcorder and Sony Vaio lap top connected via firewire. So, to recap, Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13 software can only detect a DV that is connected via firewire? And, do you know of any work around for this issue? I appreciate you guys being here.
Your Canon T6 DSLR has a memory card, which would be read by the computer via a "Card Reader". Same with your Canon Camcorder,
if you have the menu settings in the camera to record to the memory card...again, see above.
If you are recording on your Camcorder to the "Internal" memory, then you need to connect the USB cable that should have been supplied with the Camcorder from the camcorder to a USB port on your computer. Hence, this is why that MANUAL is used for reference and guidance.
With the two cameras you say you have, it does not matter whether Sony MSP 13 captures via FireWire or not, because neither of the two cameras you listed utilize that old interface. But, the files created by either of those cameras, would be able to be used within Sony MSP 13, once you have moved the files over from either camera to your computer. Again, the Manual(s) are your friend.
Chief, I guess the answer is, no, MSP 13 will not interface directly with my Canon cameras. So, manually start record on each device to include DV and Audio devices, take my position and perform the content, complete the recordings, manually stop record on each device, pull the SD cards, copy them in to the program and begin editing. So the Video Capture feature within MSP 13 is obsolete unless one has a firewire output DV? This was where I was before with Sony Vaio, Sony Digital 8.
Yeah, I was able to "capture video" before when I had a firewire camera and laptop. The advantage is not having to start record on the camera because the software captures what the camera is seeing and hearing. I can remote start either camera, one from an app on my Iphone and the other from Canon software. Still have to manually transfer the files to the computer. An unnecessary step if using Capture which stores the file automatically to the hard drive running the program. Thanks everyone for the input.
Your previous capturing was with a different camera which recorded onto tape.
With cameras that record onto SD cards and internal memory I don't think you can "capture" to a pc while the camera is recording. But I'm always open to correction. There's nothing in the manual for my Canon Legria HFG10 camera that indicates you can.
Are you saying you tried this and it didn't work for you?
Connect via USB and try View->Device Explorer.
Be Clear: Vegas Device Explorer is not Windows Explorer. It is a feature that was designed specifically for the task you are seeking, although it may not work on all Canon models with a software version as old as yours. Thanks so much for acknowledging.
Anyone know a phone number to reach support or would I need to go through sales to find out why this feature isn't working with my version and devices?
Thanks vkmast. I was in simple mode and can now see the full pull down menu. I'm running Platinum 13 but downloaded the trial version of Platinum 18 to see if I can capture direct from the camera in that version,
