Video Preview window is blank

Jr. Pascual wrote on 5/6/2019, 4:35 PM

The video portion of my video does not display in the Video Preview window.  The audio play just fine.  I have uninstalled & re-installed 16.0.0424 to no avail.
I have loaded the same video in Vegas Pro 13, 14, & 15 and the video & audio displays/plays fine in the Video Preview window.

Appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks!

Above the Preview Window there are several icons, tow the right of the Fx icon is the split screen/Fx bypass icon. Click on the down arrow and see if you have checked "Clipboard".

Also, be sure Trimmer preview is inactive.

Jr. Pascual wrote on 5/6/2019, 5:16 PM

Eagle Six: Clipboard is not checked; Fx bypass is selected. Still no video.

Musicvid: Trimmer preview is closed; Still no video.

Thanks, though.

Do other files display ok in VP16 -- or is it all video files?

Is the Preview window blank as in black or white?

I think you have covered this, you have started a new project and without any adjustments, editing, Fx's, any clip you add is the same results, just want to confirm.

Did v16 ever display the clip?

Does the clip display in the Trimmer Window?

Fx bypass is selected. Still no video.

Deselect FX Bypass.

Jr. Pascual wrote on 5/7/2019, 1:40 AM

Eagle Six: Yes I did a full reset (Option/Preferences/Video - restore default). No difference.

Eagle Six: Preview window is blank (black). Yes, started a new project, loaded a video file, no video, just audio in Preview window. When I first started VP 16, it did initially display the video - it was a 7-camera project. Then all of the sudden, the video stopped displaying; only the audio was working. Never displayed the video after: re-installing VP16, any other video file or project was a total blank. The video does not display in the trimmer window; the trimmer window in the drop menu is grayed out.

OldSmoke: The video track and video bus are not muted.

Grazie: If I deselect FX Bypass, Clipboard is selected. Makes no difference; still no video display in preview window.

This is the World of Bypass. 😉

Go back into FX Bypass and Select All, not Left or Right. Now switch OFF FX Bypass. Somehow you’ve got a selection going on. Having Clipboard Selected implies that you’ve got a Copied Graphic in the mix. Or, all of this is a Red Herring and we need to explore other options.

Resetting instructions ("Factory Reset" as Grazie likes to call it.)

Jr. Pascual wrote on 5/7/2019, 3:54 PM

To All: Blank Video Preview resolved. FINALLY found the culprit; and it was SO obvious... hiding in plain sight! I went to the Options pull down menu & unchecked Mute All Video. That was it! How it got 'checked' is anybody's guess!

Thanks to all for the quick response & helpful advice!

vkmast: Thank you for the link to the resetting instructions. I completely forgot about this reset!

Oops! Vegar Pro 15.

Looks like a repeat of the "advertisement" problem. I followed all of the instructions listed here - still nothing in the Preview Window.

Curiously the problem only occurs on the most recent project I am working on (i.e. the one that was working with everything OK, until the Advertisement popped up). My only option, if I cannot fix, this seems to be to scrap my project and re-load .MTS files to a new project.

Is this a bug or is there an expectation that customers will upgrade in an effort to get back to where they can use Vegas? I have already spent more than the cost of the upgrade in lost time.

I have permanently turned off "Use Newsfeed . . ."

Most unlikely. Something more sinister unfortunately. What was the "Advertisement" you refer to.

kwkeirstead wrote on 11/4/2019, 8:09 AM

Thanks, EricLNZ. The advertisement was an invite to upgrade Vegas Pro. For now, I will just re-start my project and see how that goes.

I am having the exact same problem. None of the above mentioned remedies are working. Has anyone solved this issue?

Rainer wrote on 4/11/2020, 1:07 AM

Exact same problem here, first time. This, the "black preview" problem, has been around Vegas Pro and Platinum forever and is widely recognised on the net. It has driven more than a few people mad and caused many newcomers to abandon Vegas. It's intermittent, may be associated with the first project of a new download. All that's known is it's not settings, media type, GPU, drivers, SO4, etc, etc.The well established and apparently only workaround apart from rebuilding the project is to select everything on the timeline and paste into a new project. Any advance on this greatly appreciated.
