Weird issue with vegas pro 19 free, and the microsoft surface pro 6

acaiberii wrote on 12/6/2021, 4:25 PM

*Free = Free trial, title too long to fit. I'm using the free trial so I can try it before I actually buy it.

Some things you should know before interacting with this post:

  • Yes, I know, my tablet will explode if I render a large video with VEGAS or if I have too many programs open in the background.
  • Specs
    • RAM: 8 Gigabytes
    • No GPU, Integrated Graphics
    • Intel I7-8650U CPU, 4 cores.
  • I can render a 10 second video in around 12 seconds.

So luckily this is my only problem with Vegas currently. It may relate to Windows Sound Mapper according to my reddit post at https://www.reddit.com/r/VegasPro/comments/r6re0u/using_vegas_pro_19_with_microsoft_sound_mapper/, so I disabled audio enhancements on my main speakers, but I'm still having problems.

Before I disabled audio enhancements:

  • After I open VEGAS Pro 19, I get insanely loud staticy noise with a tiny amount of real audio when I play any audio at all. Not just in VEGAS but outside.

After I disabled audio enhancements:

  • When I play audio after opening VEGAS Pro 19, no audio comes out of my speakers.

If this is a hardware issue, I won't buy VEGAS.

If it isn't, then I would like advice on how to fix it.

Alright, thank you for the help. If I didn't provide enough information, I'll give more if you need it.

Try, if you have choice, to use another sound device at Preferences/Audio Device

Just as an outside chance, in Windows 11 (in the Reddit post, you've stated that you are using W11) try changing some of the sound options, particularly the Exclusive Mode settings:

First, click on More Sound Settings (bottom RH corner) then the Sound window will open. Highlight the speakers and then click on Properties. The Speaker Properties window will then open. There you will find the two exclusive mode settings.

Within Vegas Pro, is the sound distortion only occurring when playing a video or audio track? If yes, is the audio MP3? If yes, there have been lots of reports on the forum over the years of distortion when playing MP3 audio. Try using the forum's search function using a keyword something like MP3 or MP3 screeching to look at possible solutions.

If the audio distortion occurs just by having Vegas Pro open with or without any media playing, then I'm stumped other than to try the suggestion given above by j-v.

This didn't work, neither on or off.

No, I'm not playing any audio, just using programs in the background that require audio.

This didn't work either. I switched between:

  • Direct Sound Surround Mapper (gave an error)
  • Windows Classic Wave Driver (gave an error)
  • Magix Low Latency 2016 (nothing)

I honestly don't know if this solution will be fixed. I really want VEGAS this Christmas, because it looks extremely promising unlike Adobe's subscription junk, and I seem to be able to do a lot with it even with my supertablet. This is the only problem I'm having with the free trial.

@acaiberii The audio distortion might be caused by latency. If so, you may fare better on a tablet by offloading the audio to an ASIO enabled USB audio interface, e.g.,

https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/best-usb-audio-interfaces/

If price and portability are primary concerns, here's one that uses the (free) ASIO4ALL USB Audio Driver, can be had at the moment for $9.99, and seems to be fairly highly rated:

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UCA202--behringer-u-control-uca202-usb-audio-interface

You would just load the driver, plug it in to USB, switch it to monitor, and plug in your headphones. It only has phono jacks for input though, so recording through it may be impractical - but it may work well for low latency sound monitoring.

@acaiberii

Did you also install Sound Forge?

There were some problems with Magix Low latency drivers on some systems. These drivers get installed with Sound Forge.

rraud wrote on 12/11/2021, 4:39 PM

The screeching noise can be caused by the Magix Low Latency 2016 driver which is installed with Sound Forge AS (Audio Studio). Reports have stated that removing the Magix Low Latency 2016 registry entry can fix the annoyance. However I have not personally experienced this dilemma so you may want to search the Sound Forge forum and the web in general prior to 'forking' with the registry. The reg entry is in the following registry location:
- "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > ASIO > Magix Low Latency 2016".
- Click the Magix Low Latency 2016 folder, delete it and click OK.

Sound Forge Pro does not install the low latency driver so the reg entry does not exist in that case.

Im Currently having the screeching audio and not allowing me to add mp3 through media, i cannot find  "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > ASIO > Magix Low Latency 2016". I tried the re-setting with I dont believe I have Sound Forge. I did the ctrl+shift double click to reset the app and it still hasn't worked...I just purchased Vegas Edit yesterday...I dont know what to do...
