What is Simplitec, why would I keep it and how to remove it?

TTTT wrote on 7/6/2021, 7:36 PM

My computer just started without Internet which trigger and error message from a sofwate named Simplitec.

According to Google Search, this is a software that is silently install by Magix if you don't do a custom installation. (This info I read was 5 year old so it should be checked if it is still correct.) Well, I remember seeing that name "Simplitec" somewhere since I re-install my system recently, I don't just don't remember what it relates to.

Since according to some sources it's Magix related, I hope to find answers here:

(I only found "C:\ProgramData\simplitec" but it's an empty folder.)

The empty folder is on my computer as well. And Simplitec is mentioned in the license agreements. So apparently it is a Magix product. I don't know anymore than that.

It's a free file cleaner.

Former user wrote on 7/6/2021, 11:36 PM

Curious that it installs a folder, but apparently not the actual program.

TTTT wrote on 7/7/2021, 3:29 AM

Well I didn't ask for a file cleaner... what does it clean actually?

The fact that it launches services without my consent and that it seems to hide its present doesn't improve its case...

How do I remove it?

(Edit: When you click on"Help" on https://www.simplitec.com/en/company , you go directly to magix.info ... So definitely something to do with Magix...)

Maybe it is used when you uninstall or update Vegas Pro/Movie Studio.

Simplitec is a subsidiary of MAGIX (Parent organisation Capiton).

EricLNZ wrote on 7/7/2021, 4:16 AM

My Program Data\simplitec folder contains a file "ComputerID.dat". Just 1kb. Looking at the dates (over three years ago) it coincides with when I downloaded a trial of Magix Movie Edit pro which has long been removed. I suspect it was installed then.

Hi everyone

. . . . My computer just started without Internet which trigger and error message from a sofwate named Simplitec . . . .

I assume this is the error message you are seeing:

This is coming from the Update Notifier which, as you are not connected to the Internet, cannot access the Magix servers to see if there is an update available for the software you have installed.

It has no effect on your program and can be ignored - do not uninstall or disable Update Notifier - it may cripple your software.

Magix were aware of this issue with the Update Notifier in Feb 2021

Anyway, I don't think that anything like this should autostart with the system...

Hi

. . . .  I also have this, is this because of Video Pro X? . . . .

Yes - all Magix branded programs and, AFAIK , the Vegas branded use Update Notifier.

@TTTT

Hi

. . . . I don't think that anything like this should autostart with the system . . . .

Most software does this except when they have the option to check for updates on start-up and it is disabled.

There are also programs that have not only checked if there is an update they actually download it ready for install.

In my case, this might have been installed with Sound Forge 15 that I purchased recently.

From a cold power up, the two machines that produce the message may not be completely on the network by the time the application runs.

For now, I disabled the application, Update Notifier, in Windows Startup. I did a couple system restarts with the router and switch powered off. The message didn't reappear and the world didn't end.

We'll see if my life can continue without it.

I started getting this same error on my desktop recently after a reboot... is it still a problem after all these years?

Confirm this happens to me many times.

Usually this is for making the 'Magix / Vegas ads' appear on lower right when you starting up your pc, but I just ignore it.

I have always disliked those annoying adds in the right hand corner at startup. I knew this message, https://services2.simplitec.com/autoupdate/api?program=mx_netsync&program_version=3.0.0.57&program_language=e..., was Magix/Vegas related, and the adds were not coming populating, but the seeing this hyperlink and the ConnectionRefusalError is still a bit distrubing.
