You "can" download the x264vfw system codec, or you "can " do it the way professionals here recommend.

FYI, you have an early build (update 1) of Vegas Pro 15. The current build is 361 (update 5).

Updated.

I tried the x264vfw codec and now I can import clips to Vegas Pro, but there is a weird color thing that can be seen randomly in different parts of the video;

Also I already have OBS but i would only use it if i can't fix this.

I don't believe Bandicam "only" records to x264 vfw.

It has more codecs but you can only use x264vfw codec as external codec.

The h264 codec would be the same thing as OBS but in .avi .

Musicvid wrote on 7/12/2018, 11:52 AM

I said they are not the same. x264vfw is crippled by an obsolete container.

But if what you say is true, it would explain why there is not a Bandicam tutorial on this website.

Oh ok, i know and maybe.

jay26og wrote on 7/12/2018, 12:43 PM

Also, if i record at .mp4 it does let me import any files without having to install the x264vfw codec (same as OBS), but i would like to use .avi because .mp4 is buggy for me :/.

Is there any way to change the project resolution (1280x720x32) to 1280x720x24?

jay26og wrote on 7/14/2018, 9:51 AM

Nevermind.

AVI isn't an obsolete container. AVI is basically the Windows Equivalent to MOV. The fact that more people use MOV doesn't obsolete AVI.

AVI files tend to perform well, and for some reason exhibit less issues on Windows systems than other containers.

I can open HEVC MOV files from iPhone in VEGAS Pro, without QuickTime, but not H.264 MOV files from an iPhone (requires QuickTime, and that does not perform well).

In some other software, it's the complete opposite. The H.264 files will load without QT, but the HEVC files will load only the Audio (black video frames) without QuickTime installed. It's a complete crapshoot.

AVI tends to work everywhere, and I wouldn't record H.264 to AVI, anyways... But I also don't screen record or camera capture to a mechanical HDD, so maybe the OP is doing it this way due to bandwidth/performance limitations on their system.

Even in MOV and MP4 containers, files from screen/game recording software like OBS, ShadowPlay, etc. has routinely been problematic for people trying to edit them. Fraps recordings in AVI have also tended to be somewhat problematic in the past, despite using "friendly" container/compression for Windows systems (and Vegas, for that matter).

MOV supports b-frames natively, AVI does not. The disadvantage is around 15-20% compression vs. quality hit. AVI does not natively support vbr audio, either, except Divx can use a hack.
