Certain images rendering erratically

monty-l wrote on 4/11/2021, 6:11 PM

Hi,

I've recently been working on a project in Sony Vegas Pro 14.0 when I noticed a bizarre problem when certain images are rendered (both in the Preview Window or actually rendered and viewed as a video file).

When certain images have Pan/Crop adjustments applied to them, they are displayed in the Preview Window erratically and bizarrely in a manner which does not correlate to the actual Pan/Crop applied to them. Huge jumps suddenly occur, rendering the image at vastly different X and Y coordinates than should be expected given the actual Pan/Crop adjustment. In the example(s) below, the Pan/Crop applied to this video simply consists of one adjustment - at the end of the video timeline a zoom is effectively applied to the image. I should expect a clean, simple transition within this zoom, but as you can see the image jumps around the screen. To be clear, there were no other Pan/Crop adjustments applied on the timeline. The problem is present both when Fx or no Fx are applied to the image.

See example(s) here:

I can't decipher exactly which images sony Vegas takes issue with, but if I'm to take a guess, images which closely match the resolution of my video (so effectively cover the screen closely) are problematic rather than images that don't. My project is at 1920x1080, and images with a resolution of 540x540 for example seem to pose no problem compared to images at 1920x900, even when said images are Pan/Cropped to effectively cover the screen. Furthermore, this problem appears and disappears when these videos are rendered at different resolutions. When rendering this video (consisting only of an image with a Pan/Crop event) at Internet 1080p, the problem is present. However, when rendering the footage at 480p widescreen, the problem disappears entirely.

Closing and re-opening Sony Vegas and my project has not solved the issue.

Thanks for your help.

First, are you using the last build of VEGAS Pro 14, available e.g. from your MAGIX Account > My products. (And please note that "Sony" Vegas Pro 14 does not exist.)

Sounds like you've got a bunch of keyframes inserted in pan/crop.

Clear all but the first keyframe and turn off the padlock.

Hi Musicvid,

The problem persists after clearing the image of all Pan/Crop keyframe events if I make any Pan/Crop adjustments whatsoever. To be clear, there were no other Pan/Crop keyframe events aside from the event at the end of the timeline (to effectively create a zoom), but adding any other adjustment (be it rotating, panning, etc.) produces the same erratic results even if no other keyframe events are present. Turning off the padlock (the Sync Cursor option?) does not fix the issue. For whatever reason, the problem does not appear if I load the images and apply Pan/Crop adjustments to them in a new Project, but this is of course not what I had in mind to solve the issue.

Sorry for my mistake, I'm using VEGAS Pro 14.0 version Build 161.

I'm using VEGAS Pro 14.0 version Build 161.

I believe that the last build of Vegas Pro 14 is build 270. That should be available on your MAGIX account - please follow the advice given by vkmast in order to get that last build and then let us know if the problem still persists.

As @Dexcon says, build 270 was the last and 7th update of VEGAS Pro 14 after the initial build 161. Updates are cumulative, i.e. "each subsequent update will include the features [and bug fixes] of all previous updates".

I suspect that is part of your problem.
