Don't you think VEGAS Pro' UI could be more attractive ?

lan-mLMC wrote on 8/10/2019, 11:28 AM

Sometimes, fashionable UI can arouse man's inspiration and attract more new user to pay for the product. Now most color of VEGAS Pro's UI are black and grey. The black and grey may make a person feel bored. Why not endow VEGAS Pro a more fashionable and color UI? it is for a technical reason (.NET programing language?) or a aesthetic reason (lacking a UI designer)?

It's a major consideration for color vision -- a neutral visual anchor is necessary, otherwise the eyes drift or overcompensate. The common mistake is to assume the eyes are a constant factor. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

This article has not been updated, however the same principles apply whether looking at analog or digital displays.

The four options came with VP 15. You may still find some long forum discussions on the subject.

No the UI is just great as it is.

This is a common color scheme for Color Correction. If you notice, Resolve is very similar because it started as a CC system only.

I know it. They are all non-colorful color. They are also non-gradient color. I think VGEAS Pro can draw lessons from the peers like DaVinci Resolve and HitFilm Pro.

Maybe it can offer several different-style themes for people with different tastes.

Maybe. Please look up the previous discussions on the subject. There is the "Find..." Search feature here.

For me, one of the best things about Vegas is the simplicity and click-and-drag ease of access of its interface. I have tried the other editing programs and Vegas is still the best, IMHO, for its UI.

Here 'ya go, Ian. Click to view full image, lock your eyes on the preview image for sixty seconds. Now look away. What do you see? Don't worry, your eyes will slowly come back to normal; it's called color fatigue. It's also why we edit in a neutral space.

@lan-mLMC … it would be great if you could identify what lessons might be learned by the Vegas Pro team given that the UI color scheme in HitFilm Pro 13 can't be changed (nothing in the menus or in the user guide show a UI color selection option), and it doesn't seem that the UI color scheme in Resolve can be changed either. And both have dark grey UIs not all that dissimilar to that of Vegas Pro 17.

As an aside, items 4.2.2 and 4.2.3 in the HitFilm Pro 13 user manual make reference to 'VEGAS Effects' which is advertised as being part of the yet to be released Vegas Post.

@Musicvid … +1. My preference is very much with a neutral dark grey. This has become very apparent to me with the UI changes in Sound Forge 13 where a darkish grey UI can be chosen instead of white, the only UI color available in previous SF versions. The dark grey UI in SF13 is just so much easier on my eyes.

By "neutral dark grey," I assume you mean some digital approximation of analog 18% grey (which can't be duplicated exactly), and a preference that I agree makes the best background.

Dexcon wrote on 8/10/2019, 11:28 PM

@Musicvid ... Please see the attached screenshot of what SoundForge 13 looks like with the dark grey option (as well as the Display Options drop-down window):

My only criticisms are that the range of colors for the waveform is rather limited via the Hue slider - and white or off-white isn't an option. Yellow is therefore about the best for me from what's available. And when using the Pencil Tool, the line being drawn is quite pale and thin - nowhere near as clear as it was in previous SF versions.

Since we're not dealing with an image in your screenshot, I would go with what feels the most comfortable, and I agree, your theme is quite easy to take.

Hi Friends,

I find the options for color of UI quite alright. But what I'd like to see is an overall revisit about the button, fonts, smoothness and polish... I quite like the bigger fonts that DaVinci has, for instance. And how the clips for instance look like when dragging them around, there is some smoothness that I believe comes from the way the whole program is written.

But I like it enough how it is too! :)

NTW, I had hoped that v17 will introduce something of a "smart tool" to allow select tool in the same time with the regular cursor, without the need to press D repeatedly. Well, maybe next time!
