I want to stop being informed about THIS Update?

Grazie wrote on 12/17/2019, 4:03 PM

Whilst I'm getting my work done. It's very annoying to be reminded and having to close that reminder down, each time I start my work. Is there a Preference?

Same! It froze at one point coz I don’t have my PC connected to the internet. Had to ctrl-alt-del and restart.

@frankp - I hear you. If I don’t wish to update, I should’ve the option not to without that reminder worrying me.

john_dennis wrote on 12/17/2019, 4:43 PM

I agree. I have more than one boot SSD and I often have a version of the software loaded intentionally. I'm aware that there is an upgrade available. You don't have to tell me twice.

NickHope wrote on 12/17/2019, 10:06 PM

I'm surprised there isn't a "Check for updates at startup" setting, even in the internal preferences. That's pretty standard on software these days.

Grazie wrote on 12/17/2019, 10:49 PM

I'm surprised there isn't a "Check for updates at startup" setting, .......

@NickHope - Can you think of any reason why this would be the case? Why would MAGIX elect NOT to have this User “Check”? Clearly this must be that they really DON’T want us to miss out on the fixes they’ve implemented. Yeah, that’ll be it. However, it does drive me nutz having to put off the Update Build event every time I start up, it’s as if I’m being continually “invited” to update to a Build that’s requiring my installation? As I read the effects of this Build is having, I’ve become concerned as to what I’d be “experiencing” on my own setup, a setup that I’ve now, eventually, corralled into working. Surely not? I’ve done plenty of BETA Testing for companies. Always there’s a caveat that states that the S/w is not recommended to be used for commercial finishing as it wouldn’t be fit for purpose - yet. That’s why it’s a BETA Version, and I’d agreed to this in the NDA too.

Question: Do we know we could successfully uninstall this Build and revert to the previous Build?

Not really

I think rolling back an update is difficult without uninstalling it first and probably losing many settings. Taking a system image that you can revert to is probably a better route, but that can be stressy unless you're very confident in your workflow for that. Windows System Restore might do it, but personally I've never actually done such a restore.

In your position I'd probably sit tight for a few days and wait for more feedback on build 387. I'm seeing that we're now a couple of days in and relatively speaking there has not been much talk of crashes, especially the white-screen-of-death crashes (foggy whiteish screen with spinning icon). So it's possible that things are improved. One bug-fix listed is "Fix to help prevent crash when editing an event".

@NickHope - Thank you for your fulsome reply. Within it is definitely a further reason to have that Check for Updates option. All that faffing about and loss of time=money opportunity whilst they get that Build corrected could easily be avoided by a Button!

@NickHope - Again no Bypass Button.

@NickHope - Yeah, that could also mean few people HAVE bothered to update, as a result of what they are reading, and consequently what we're seeing are the results of ten or less updaters.

So it's possible that things are improved. One bug-fix listed is "Fix to help prevent crash when editing an event".

@NickHope - Reading that “Fix” comment is just too nebulous for me. It could cover a multitude of inabilities. Does it mean the reporting back to the software was buggy, or what? Personally I’d like to hear/read just WHAT was fixed so I can gauge for myself, do you see?

Your advise to hold-off is sterling indeed we just need the By-Pass Build Update Button. However holding-off at present still requires me to do the delay Update Tango. it’s a bit like Water Torture, gotta feeling I’ll need to surrender.

Is it not just a single click? I can't remember what that "update" prompt looks like and I didn't screengrab it.

I have a similar issue with a Media Manager incompatiblity warning every time I open a window layout that contains it. It's a PITA but just a single-click to dismiss and get on with my work.

(to be clear, I'm not defending the lack of a setting to disable the update prompt)

For reference only

(I routinely clicked this off twice before managing to screengrab.)

Btw, anybody tried this?

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-where-can-i-download-vegas-pro-and-other-vegas-software--104782/#ca728824 : "The download managers that previously installed "MAGIX Connect" now install "Update Notifier")" The D/L link near the end of Section 6 in that FAQ thread. I didn't see it in the VP 17 dlm.

The suggested standard answer in Support form if you enter your request: remove connect

"Removing product notifications from the program and desktop

Notifications are received directly inside the program and computer desktop via the "Update Notifier (formerly MAGIX Connect)" tool. In order to deactivate notifications, please follow the instructions below.

Disable notifications via Update Notifier (formerly MAGIX Connect):

Please start the Update Notifier (formerly MAGIX Connect) Application and select "Info Channels". Here you can activate or deactivate the program notiications by selecting the individual program name."

MAGIX won..... White Flag here. I surrendered and installed it.

Musicvid wrote on 12/18/2019, 6:30 AM

Permanent solution -- use an older version.

NickHope wrote on 12/18/2019, 11:01 PM

@vkmast The download manager for VP17 does not offer a download of "Update Notifier". The VP15 & 16 download mangers still do. I think (but not sure) the "Update Notifier" separate application (formerly "MAGIX Connect") is actually the "Newsfeed" thing that is controlled by the Preferences > General > Use Newsfeed to stay informed about VEGAS product updates setting. Notifications look like this:

I think it's a different thing from the update notifications we're talking about in this thread:

The latter notification needs an additional button that says: "Do not show this message again". That should be followed by a prompt that says: "You may manually check for software updates at any time from the 'Help' menu". And the "do not show" setting should be visible as a setting in Preferences > General.

@NickHope - You COMPLETELY get me! Thank you. It’s when PROCESS gets in the way of OUTCOME. Because of the drip drip drip Water-Torture of this annoying continual reminder I just finally capitulated and staggered, “Zombie-Update”.

vkmast wrote on 12/19/2019, 1:31 AM

@NickHope thanks for the comment and elaborating on this. All very likely and I 'm certainly for the suggestions about the additional button. (Btw. I need to correct that the D/L link (in VP 14-16 as you mentioned) is near the end of Section 6 in that FAQ Post, not thread, as I originally said. And having seen that I double-checked before posting my earlier comment that it's not in VP 17 dlm any more. That's why I did mention "I didn't see it in the VP 17 dlm".

NickHope wrote on 12/19/2019, 3:10 AM

@vkmast Note that I added section 5 about "In-Application Updates" a day or 2 ago, so the direct links section has moved from #5 to #6. I think I'll probably split the post up into linked comments soon, as it's getting very long.

vkmast wrote on 12/19/2019, 5:09 AM

@NickHope Thanks for continuing to update that invaluable FAQ (which I need to use on a daily basis). The added section about In-Application Updates was already there when I posted, so I was able to refer to section 6. The splitting could be helpful, thanks:)
