Over-contrasted wrong colours after rendering

What am I doing wrong? Whatever colour mode and whatever software (Corel Draw/Photoshop) I prepare my bitmaps in (png/jpg) they end up looking over contrasted or oversaturated like below. What is Vegas doing and why can't I keep or why Vegas can't preserve original RGB colours or profiles? I just simply what to use nice blue background frame and... I just can't.

VMS works on Computer RGB so what you see should be accurate. How are you viewing your rendered file? If it's with a player such as VLC then most players work on Studio RGB range so increase contrast. Try adding Levels FX using Computer RGB to Studio RGB preset when rendering.

Also how does it appear when you add your rendered file to your timeline? Does it match your original?

Thank you for your answers, unfortunately my Movie Studio 15 is persistent in changing colours like this. I downloaded a trial of Vegas pro and it is OK, it is also OK with any other software but whatever I sent from Movie Studio 15 and I can see it also in version 12 the colours are completely wrong. I can't believe how blind I was for the whole time just because I wasn't using much graphics with specific colours but rather videos where it's probably looks like a higher contrast.

Anyway, Vegas family is still the fastest to click for my slower PC so I believe I will have to buy the Pro version to fix the bug.

But you are right that the colour change is identical like in the levels simulation 'Studio RGB to Computer RGB'.

but I can't blame players or other programs if everywhere else everything works fine.

THanks again!

Right so this is super weird, as per your request I checked how do the clips look when re-dropped in the project.

And:

1) The preview without the simulation is looking magically back normal when in the project, which probably means that Movie studio is interpreting it the same way.

2) When the video clips are re-exported re-rendered they again look over contrasted washed out.

3) BUT re-exported correctly looking video which I previously rendered in Vegas Pro LOOKS FINE.

This means that Movie Studio struggles with interpretation of the colours in the bitmaps/images, maybe due not not handling colour profiles. But sadly it preserves the error for videos rendered from the graphics by the Movie Studio.

Tired!

When using Movie Studio 15 with RGB images, the preview will look fine but the renders will play contrasty because they have not been converted to REC 709 Limited levels for delivery.

With recent versions of Vegas Pro, this is taken care of automatically in the 8-bit Full Range Project setting. No weirdness whatsoever, once you understand the progression of feature improvements.

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp18-notes-on-the-8-bit-full-level-option--122749/

Therefore, in Vegas Movie Studio 15, you must apply the Computer RGB -> Studio RGB Effect just before rendering to a REC 709 Limited format, which includes all popular 8 bit delivery formats in current use today. It is not necessary in Vegas Pro 18-19, 8 bit Full Range projects.

The fix is that simple; if you want to dig into the obscure history of this behavior, have a look at this humorous, but accurate article I wrote in 2017, before Vegas Pro 18 with automatic levels correction was introduced. Happy Holidays!
