Spinning pictures on an axis

Dirtbag wrote on 11/12/2018, 1:24 PM

Hi all - I am looking to ask if something is possible with vegas please.

When I see stuff on the TV I always try to challenge myself to re-create it.

I watch a lot of crime channel programmes on the TV and there is a programme that has a real neat looking visual.
It's from the programme Homicide : 24 hours to k*ll, and it has a scene where it winds back a series of windows (pictures) that rotate in a circle and then slows down to the picture and then a blur transition. I can figure out the blur, but wondering how I would get the rotating pictures like 3d.

Hard to explain without a video, but if you know the show, then you may know.

These rotate around at an elevated position, and they are seen at the back.

I think I can do it via track motion with some thought.

version is Sony vegas Pro 14.
OS Windows 10

Thanks in advance.

Track Motion, Pan/Crop, Keyframes.

A blurry still shot with a flash off a tv screen tells nothing about what you are trying to accomplish. You'll just have to do better than that.

Dirtbag wrote on 11/12/2018, 4:17 PM

Thanks for your comments. Granted the pic isn't great, but I disagree that it tells "nothing" , that's a little unfair ?

Moving on - I cannot get a video of it as nothing is available online / youtube etc, its the best I can do at present from the TV.

I am looking at the slides going around in a circle , pivoting / orbiting horizontally around the offending flash.

I hope this explains better ?

Much of what you want to do can be done in Track Motion / 3D Source Alpha.

Here is a four face starter project done in Vegas Pro 13. It produces a video like this:

Download and practice with this project. You'll need to add 20 more faces at 15 degrees (360/24=15 degrees) to get the 24 hour effect that you want. Get right on that while I go watch The Voice.

Hi John, thank you so much , I have something to work with and thanks again. Enjoy the show !

john_dennis wrote on 11/13/2018, 1:19 AM

You're welcome.

I decided to change the angles and displacement from the axis of the first four blocks to get you a little farther down the road. You still have 20 blocks to add a 15 degree offsets from the adjacent one.

Try this project and see if it is closer to your goal. It looks like this.

john_dennis wrote on 11/13/2018, 1:27 AM

Hint. Those nested blocks could contain live video.

@Dirtbag

Or you can try BluffTitler. Steep learning curve, but you are working in 3D space. There is probably a template that does something similar to what you want.

Vegas Pro 18 Edit, Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum, Magix Video Pro X16, Magix Movie Studio Platinum 2024, Xara Designer Pro X19, Samplitude Pro X8 Suite, Music Maker 2025 Premium, SF Audio Cleaning Lab 4, Sound Forge Pro 16 and more.

Image from BluffTitler. I used the Carousel template that comes with BT and simply changed the images to mine and added 1 piece of text - Photo 8. The Carousel turns, or rather the camera revolves around the scene.

"Hi mate - I am looking to bring the blocks closer so that they overlap slightly, how would I decrease the size of the orbit please."

Dirtbag wrote on 11/14/2018, 3:20 AM

Thanks very much, I have now 24 blocks rotating ready for picture input, with solid background so I can chroma keyer it to place on a dynamic background.

Is there a way to still have the blocks rotating around the axis as achieved , but having them always facing forwards? (like my cruddy example picture)?

john-brown wrote on 11/14/2018, 9:53 AM

Just to complete the BluffTitler exercise, here is the result. I put one piece of text in just to show that it can be done. I didn't put in any effects, like the bright light in the centre of your example. And, I just used the template and replaced most of the images with mine. This is a lot simpler than doing it in Vegas. Of course, once you've done it in Vegas, you can use it multiple times with different images/video clips.

@john-brown which BluffTitler template did you use?

john-brown wrote on 11/14/2018, 11:31 AM

@3POINT

Carousel.bt

It should be here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Outerspace Software\BluffTitler\Media\Shows\Picture

as it comes with the base program, no need to buy any of the add-on templates.

The ending in the video is actually a modification that I made. I added 5s to the end, added kf to the Camera layer, then a second or so before the end, I modified the camera layer to be at 90 degrees, normal height and zoomed in to fill the screen with the image - kf.

Thanks, but I still couldn't find it....till I updated my BluffTitler to the latest version 14.1.0.8...😊

@john-brown

Could you send me your modification of the carousel.bt?

john-brown wrote on 11/14/2018, 1:24 PM

@3POINT

Here is the link to Dropbox.

You will have to change the files of some of the photos as I did not include them.

Strange. I opened it on my desktop to see what would happen and the images are all the wrong size. However, as soon as I added my photos, the size went back to normal.

For each Picture, there are 2 sides, Texture 1 and Texture 2, so you put in 2 photos.

Thank you very much for your very quick response...I will analyze your modifications and hope to learn from it, because at the moment I'm still a novice with BluffTitler.

I read somewhere that the AR of the images is according the AR of the photos added. I was also already able to use videos instead of photos (first converted to .wmv videoformat).

@3POINT

I'm pretty much a novice as well. Occasionally, I'll sit down for a day or 2 and try to understand it all. Then nothing for a couple of months and I forget what I learned.

One good way is to start with the video tutorials on the site to get an understanding as to the basics. Then go through the various shows that come with the base program. They all have lessons that help greatly.

Let me know if you have problems and I'll try to help.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it, but you should check out "scattershot"... it's close to what you were looking to accomplish.

@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns

Ist "scattershot" ein Vegas-FX, Inhalt von BluffTitler oder ein eigenes Programm?
