The timeline

Naz wrote on 7/13/2020, 1:51 PM

Hello,

When I try to take videos ive recorded from obs and drop them into the timeline it wont let me. My mouse changes to a circle with a line through it and I cant drag and drop it in. Ive also tried importing my videos through the "import media" button but then I get a error message saying "Warning: An error occurred while opening one or more files. The reason for the error could not be determined." The only way I can now drop my videos into the timeline is if I render them first through Handbrake. Is there a way to fix this so I dont have to render each clip through handbrake first? In the past Vegas Pro 17 has not had this issue and this just popped up recently. If anyone has an answer please notify me.

Sony Vegas vs. VEGAS

j-v wrote on 7/13/2020, 2:14 PM

Sony Vegas Pro 17 does not exist and if you use Vegas Pro 17 from Magix, you have a possible problem with the used OBS settings to make your file.
Maybe we can help if you show us the MediaInfo of the made OBS files.

This is the media info from just a 3 second clip

For Vegas Pro 17 latest build might this not be a problem.

Okay thank you for everything so far btw. Do you think you might know anything else that could be the issue?

One or another Windows update in the meantime?

Are you saying to update windows? I have version 2004 which is the latest version.

Ditch the .MKV wrapper. Though Vegas Creative Software developers started "experimenting" with it, other options are likely to work better for you with Vegas.

@john_dennis thank you, now that I ditched the .MKV it now works 👍👍

For your "current" .mkv container OBS recordings: Start OBS - File - Remux Recordings - opens a window for you to choose source video, and where to put "Remuxed" video (Includes the Audio for a Bonus!). This will "Remux" those videos to an .mp4, and now "Play Nice" in your Vegas Pro 17.

Then, as per the post above from @Musicvid, follow his settings, and you will have awesome, lag-free happy editing from then on! Those recordings make delicious meals for Vegas Pro or Vegas Movie Studio, your choice of either, on a computer owned and operated by you.

I have nearly the same settings as above, on three different computers, and all of them record quite well and "Play Nice" with Vegas Pro and Vegas Movie Studio.
