VEGAS PRO 15 emergency

Michael-Lyddon wrote on 7/18/2021, 3:49 PM

okay, one more time.
I am editing a documentary on MY vegas pro 15. Suddenly it says "you do not have the license to operate this software" and shuts down when I try to import or save the project.
What is going on? Why is this suddenly happening now after 100s of hours editing on this software?
How do I fix this glitch?

Hi,

Can you go into your Magix account and try uninstalling and reinstalling the software from there? It will have your Vegas serial number listed. Your project will still be available as the last one that successfully saved. Someone else may have a better idea how to proceed but this may be worth a try.

Michael-Lyddon wrote on 7/18/2021, 4:17 PM

I have a vegas 15 disc. I installed the software from disc with serial number.
I am not going to reinstall the software and risk losing 100s of hours of work.

Michael-Lyddon wrote on 7/18/2021, 4:19 PM

The software is psychotic. It is now allowing me to render the entire film (rough cut) but it wont let me add another media file to the project without shutting off.

Reinstalling software has no impact on project or media files. Do back them up somewhere and you can use the backup or originals.

Try logging into your Magix account and see what's going on with the registered computers.

After a Windows update, I tried to install VP on my laptop. It said I had reached the limit of activations, which should be two. I logged into my Magix account and saw that VP was listed twice on the same computer. I deactivated one of them and was able to install on the laptop. My main desktop computer (that was shown twice, now only once) worked fine.

@Reyfox yes, occasional reports of "double" activations happening.

Dexcon wrote on 7/19/2021, 6:28 AM

That double activation happened to me a couple of years ago but it wasn't anything to do with a Windows update, it was purely due to updating the build of Vegas Pro at the time - it wanted to make the update installation a second activation.

Vegas 15 now says "you do not have the license to operate this software" and shuts down when I try to import or save the project although it clearly has the license number and has had the license number for 4 years now.
Looking for someone who has had this "you do not have the license to operate this software" happen to them and what they did about it.

I found the service center link. It shows the software is being used on two devices, which is true.
It has been that way for 4 years, nothing has changed.

So as far as Magix is concerned the device you are having problems with is still registered under your account.

The issue must be with the settings stored on this machine. This is advice from Magix or resolving a similar issue:

In your MAGIX My Account under My Products, de-activate both current activations for Vegas Pro 15 and then go through the re-activation process on you new install on your computer.

what it really looks like is that the wonderful magix is trying to get me to buy their new upgrade so they're screwing with my license. it was so much better under sony.

We do not do things like that.

RogerS wrote on 7/19/2021, 9:40 AM

Dexcon's advice is solid and exactly what I would do. You will not lose any projects or files and stand to gain the use of your software again as its settings appear corrupted.

At this point you've been assisted by two fairly experienced users and a Magix engineer.

If you don't want to proceed further, file a support request (scroll back to the top and click "support").

diverG wrote on 7/19/2021, 10:00 AM

I note you istalled from a disc. The version you have on the disc may not be the latest issue of VP15. There makes a good case for downloading & installing the latest VP15. You will not loose any of your work. Once installed & registered simply pick up your old project and contiue with your work.

If you want a good fallback position simply take an image of your system. Then uninstall existing VP15 & reinstall the latest VP15 download from the magix site. Don't forget that you will need to release a licence in order to reactivate.

Once up & running test thoroughly before picking up your old project.

The advise you have been given is sound. This is a peer to peer forum. Magix direct may well take longer to respond depending on their current work load. You are looking at maybe an hour of time to carry out the work required to have a new install of VP15.
