VP 18 Crashing trying to open this MP4

Ruby888 wrote on 4/9/2021, 11:46 AM

Hi,

I just ran into a problem with Vegas Pro 18 crashing every time I open this file (Yellow arrows are the problem files):

Its an MP4 video clip rendered in Vegas using Magix/AAC one. Any ideas? I only have 8 GB or RAM on this computer.

So, try to de-install it and see what will say.

Standard response is to provide the MediaInfo and Vegas file properties for the file that is causing problems. I can't comment on that particular update because it hasn't hit my system, so let's try troubleshooting your file first.

Render the clip from the original Vegas project to a more editable form. Why HEVC? For media that will be reused, pick Apple ProRes or MagicYUV or anything else that doesn't lose quality and cause future problems in projects.

What do setting do u render too?

I usually use MagicYUV or nest the original Vegas project in the current project.

JN- wrote on 4/9/2021, 8:22 PM

@Ruby888 Select to render out to Magix Avc, or Prores to keep the quality up, not hevc. It may be causing problems because its a hevc encoded file. See the mediainfo output ...

I am assuming from your original post “Its an MP4 video clip rendered in Vegas” that you rendered out to hevc, then brought the hevc file back into vp to render out your project?

I always render Magix AVC, that other MP4 must have been a download.

JN- wrote on 4/10/2021, 3:28 AM

@Ruby888 If u cannot render it out to another, easier to use file from within VP, then best to transcode it. You can try Handbrake, also there's a util VFR2CFR, see my signature for link. Requires the ffmpeg utilities downloaded and added to the Windows PATH.

Someone here should write up what codecs Vegas likes. I use Camtasia and the only one it does not like is mov, all others work. Vegas is so finicky.

Marco. wrote on 4/10/2021, 11:34 AM

MOV is not a codec, it is a container or wrapper which could contain almost any kind of codec.

So thats why converters can change the "wrapper" without affecting the video? IS there a list of compatible containers for Vegas?
