Burned DVD won't play on older DVD player

Hi, I burned a DVD with DVD architect and it plays just fine on my newer DVD/Blueray player and my external DVD burner. It won't play on my mother's older DVD player, I'd say her player is maybe 15 years old. Is there different format I should be using to get it to play on an older DVD player? I'm using DVD+R DL disks.

not all dvd players can played burned dvds. you can look up the model of the player and see what formats are compatible.

Based on my own experience I would agree with this ancient comment from @Musicvid

Note also the age of "her player".

Of course I don't remember writing that, but I'll add that burning your DL-DVD-R in DVDShrink with the layer break point exactly at a chapter mark seems to improve the chances of playability.

Of course the stock advice to use Verbatim DL DVD-R and burn at slower than max write speed always applies.

Kimberly-e,

Buy the woman who carried you for nine months a new Blu-ray player. Throw in a 65" TV, also.

I burned some +R media many years ago, but also used single layer -R. In spite of the brand preference that I had for Verbatim, I vaguely remember a news report a long time ago that stated there is only one plant left that manufactures DVDs. The plant was owned by CMC which was not high on my list of favorites. I just checked a spindle of Verbatim -R single layer DVDs that I've had for quite a while and here is what I found:

Yes, CMC purchased Verbatim from MCC in 2019. Even before then some Verbatim were actually CMC. I have some Verbatim BD-RE (rewritables), made by CMC, which are giving problems after around 30 burns. Yet BR rewritables are supposed to last longer than DVD -RW. But I've Verbatim and Imation DVD-RWs which are 15 plus years old and are still burning after hundreds of burns.
