How can I reduce "super whites" with VEGAS Pro?

alfalfito wrote on 4/14/2020, 6:06 AM

Good Morning,

I am trying to restore VHS videos that have been recorded by a camcorder many years ago and I have chosen sony vegas pro 17.0 for it. Also to say that I am quite a novice and I am trying to learn about video editing so it is possible that I use expressions that are not correct.

What I wanted to do is eliminate or reduce the part of the "super whites" it is as if it were to eliminate the parts that burn in a photograph but this time in a video. I have watched YouTube tutorial videos but what I have seen with the color curves plugin what they do is lower the whole image, the brightness and I did not want to darken other areas.

To give you an idea of what I am referring to, I attach an image along with the video fields plugin if you notice there is a line of white dots above 100%.

Please, can you tell me what filters I could use and how to use them to carry out this correction?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

Seems like your footage is 0-255 range. You need to make it 16-235, the video range:

- Use VEGAS Levels plugin

- Use Computer RGB to Studio RGB preset

Done. :)

Sony Vegas Pro 17?

Dexcon wrote on 4/14/2020, 6:31 AM

Yes, given that the OP is a new user to NLE (a self-named novice), why would s/he call it Sony Vegas Pro. As far as I can see, the only places to offer Sony Vegas Pro 17 are sites on the internet offering cracked (thus illegal) versions of Vegas Pro. It is also worth noting that this forum's Ts & Cs state (IMO) that a legal licence to use Vegas Pro is needed in order to use this forum.

Vegas Pro 17 instead of "Sony Vegas Pro 17" I mean

@Musicvid thanks for the heads-up. (FYI for the OP)

And please note that currently you can "register now for free" to the forum.

@vkmast ... Thank you for the post re FYI for the OP - that's good. Maybe it's time for MAGIX to consider the ability to lodge a post on the forum to be linked only to those who have a registered serial number on MAGIX' records. It wouldn't be perfect because someone with, say, a registered VP14 purchase could still move to a newer pirated version. But it would likely stem the flow of 'blow-ins' - which have become more and more apparent in recent times - who prefer pirating as their method of product acquisition.

vegascreativesoftware.info is the forum's address. I am not a lawyer (but have extensive experience many

… is one of the conditions that is required in order to comply with the Ts & Cs of the forum. Of course, this is my conclusion only, and any number of lawyers may agree or not agree.

There's a snag currently most likely due to the unfortunate VEGAS Support Assistant overlay preventing clicking. It's been reported a few times now.

Try working around this by making the page smaller (the square button upper right) and dragging the right border further right to enlarge the black area. At some point you should be able to see the hand. Just tested this (with Message POST) in Chrome and Edge. For me, also after moving the page from the laptop screen to the larger external one it works as it should. You might try dabbling with DPI settings as well.

Edit: I saw your comment on the Ts&Cs. My interpretation is different as I said in the PM. As long as the registration is free and you don't need a license for that you can use the forum.

We need to get a confirmation from the higher-ups.

@vkmast ... thanks for the workaround suggestion. Unfortunately, no success. Even while writing/editing the text in the Message reply, the cursor would lock up or even disappear.

Also was unable to send a private message. Normally use FireFox. Tried it with MS Edge and it was fine.

Try Firefox, esp. If on Android.

Thanks gents … I was using MS Edge (right up-to-date) on a laptop - and I also tried it on Edge on the desktop. I haven't tried Firefox or Edge on my Android Samsung phone as yet, but that's a good thought.

@vkmast @Dexcon

Circling back, you do not need a license in order to participate in this forum. Registration is free because we do not want to exclude those who are interested in any of our products before purchase, or of course, those who have a serial for VP13 or older.

vkmast wrote on 4/15/2020, 10:19 AM

@Bri-Hageman thanks for confirming. This has been my understanding as well. SCS did not require a license for joining the forum since some time in 2013.
