Nope. Can you provide more details? What media are you working with, what are you undoing?

System 1:

Windows 10
i9-10850K 10 Core
128.0G RAM
Nvidia RTX 3060 Studio driver [most likely latest]
Resolution        3840 x 2160 x 60 hertz
Video Memory 12G GDDR5

System 2:

Lenovo Yoga 720
Core i7-7700 2.8Ghz quad core, 8 logical
16G ram
Intel HD 630 gpu 1G vram
Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu 2G vram

Are you reporting an incident with a single project, or something that you have tested over multiple projects and can publish the "steps to reproduce?"

martin-g1565 wrote on 8/26/2020, 3:20 PM

I'm working on two short film projects. 1: 1080p/25fps/stereo 2. 3K/24fps/stereo. I get the lag when I drag open an audio or video track and then hit undo. I went online for workaround and some who experienced this bug in past suggested turning off thumbnails, which I did, but that didn't get rid of lag. Also, I find thumbnails to be useful.

I'm using FilmConvert vid effect and Audionomix Dialogue Cleaner and Nectar 3 and other Izotope effects via VST. And Nugen Limiter.

Sorry for alarmist tone but I was super frustrated with the lack of any customer service from Matrix and the fact that I just had to reup my subscription but can't take advantage of the latest software, so in essence I am paying twice for the upgrade to Vegas Pro 17.

michael-harrison wrote on 8/26/2020, 3:37 PM

Next set of questions...

1) What hardware are you running on (cpu, gpu, mem, etc)

2) Do you see this lag on projects with media only or do you see it only after you start adding the fx you've listed?

You would have had to reup it to keep using 17 as well? You don't have to pay extra to upgrade.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

martin-g1565 wrote on 8/31/2020, 3:09 PM

Yes, I would have had to reup to keep using 17. But the point is: stability and speed should be the top priorities of any upgrade and they constantly aren't w Vegas. I suspect there's been no testing of actual projects before release--it's all about marketing--what can we say we offer now--yada yada yada.

To answer your question, Michael, it's exhausting as a little guy to go through the hoops of proving that the issue is with Vegas 18. I suspect the problem may be related to the Audio Device Matrix Low Latency 2016, which has never worked on my HP Zbook 17 G4 @ 310GHz w 64 RM. I just bought a RME Babyface Pro extremely Sound Card and I must use it in 17 w Audio Device Windows Classic but even that one is buggy and I must constantly re-choose something else then choose Windows Classic again to keep my timeline playing.

(For Michael, I'm also using Autonomix Dialog Cleaner, Nectar Elements/Nectar 3 and Izotope RX and FilmConvert in Vegas.

I was able to get a version of 17 again so I'm back in business. No thanks to Matrix, who wrote me that they were unable to provide me a link to it. Well, I found one that worked and I shall stick w it until sometime in the future, when I shall test it again, I guess.

Again, anyone experience the undo lag in 18 that some had problems with in 17 and earlier versions?

Musicvid wrote on 9/1/2020, 1:35 PM

It is likely your system-intensive third party plugins that are causing the lag; they eat up a lot of buffer space. Likely nothing to do with Vegas except yes, there are version differences. Your saga about version "reup" is quite strange, if you bought 17 then you own 17, and it is available for download from your Magix account.

Mohammed_Anis wrote on 9/2/2020, 2:15 AM

I experience this, but I attributed this to my processor being two generations beneath recommended spec.

I have an i7-6700K. (Early skylake stuff)

martin-g1565 wrote on 9/3/2020, 3:30 PM

@Musicvid Yeah, nothing to do w Vegas except there is zero lag in 17 and terrible lag in the new version 18. Do you work for Matrix?

@Mohammed_Anis I would be interested to hear if the lag is there for you in 17. Vegas as always been the NLE with low hardware reqs. But perhaps that has changed. For now, I will stick w 17 because undo lag is a huge dealbreaker for me, the way I work.

I hope more Vegas users report undo lag in 18 so it will be addressed perhaps in update.

vkmast wrote on 9/3/2020, 3:34 PM

What's "Matrix" here?

Phil_P wrote on 9/3/2020, 4:32 PM

Yes I am also seeing this. Undo on a simple project in V18 with no plugins lags quite badly at times. Especially after deleting clips.

What's "Matrix" here?

nb. Obviously he meant to say "Magix", Moderator or not, there is absolutely no need for that kind of snide comment.

martin-g1565 wrote on 9/3/2020, 4:41 PM

Sorry, I meant Magix--my dyslexia intercedes at times!

@Phil_P Ty. I'm sorry/glad to hear that. Sorry for both of us. Hope Magix is tuning in.

vkmast wrote on 9/3/2020, 4:58 PM

@martin-g1565 thanks for the explanation. Please note also that this is a peer user forum and, excluding some VEGAS team members (click avatars to see who are employees) who may comment every now and then, none of us (including the ones with "M" in avatar) work for MAGIX or VEGAS Creative. That applies to user Musicvid as well, who's a longtime contributor to these forums. The VEGAS support is through this link.

martin-g1565 wrote on 9/3/2020, 5:47 PM

Thanks for letting me know that. What does the M stand for then? Also, curious why the forum is called the Vegas Creative Software Support Community--isn't that the old name when Vegas was owned by Sony?

Musicvid wrote on 9/3/2020, 5:49 PM

Yeah, that's me in the middle. Can't you tell from my picture?

vkmast, our living, breathing search engine and forum moderator, doesn't make snide comments, nor did he direct any in this discussion. He does, however, expect accurate nomenclature, which is not a detriment to anyone who posts here.

@martin-g1565 It stands for Volunteer Forum Moderator. No, Vegas Creative Software ® was never owned by Sony. Then it was called Sony Creative Software. Would it be alright to leave the little asides out of your comments? I taught dyslexic students for twenty-three years, and it takes tolerance on both sides. Welcome to the forum, from a peer user and volunteer contributor.

vkmast wrote on 9/3/2020, 5:58 PM

@martin-g1565 the old community was "Sony Creative Software". [And] .

The "M" means a (peer user) moderator, not MAGIX. VEGAS staff members have this hexagon in avatar.

Green means "online".

martin-g1565 wrote on 9/3/2020, 6:00 PM

@Musicvid Fair enough. Sorry if I insinuated an affiliation. I was frustrated--for my experience is things like undo lag in a software update are the rule rather than the exception because software engineers never seem to test the program w real project files.

martin-g1565 wrote on 9/3/2020, 6:01 PM

I assume Moderators are listened to by Magix? If they report a number of users report undo lag in 18?

martin-g1565 wrote on 9/3/2020, 6:03 PM

That bit about Vegas Creative Software was not as aside. I was genuinely confused--this coupled w fact that Magix seems to be marketing a new Pro Video NLE--so I didn't know if Vegas Pro had been sold again or transfered somewhere.

martin-g1565 wrote on 9/3/2020, 6:05 PM

btw: I've been using Vegas Pro since v. 6 or 7.

You'll have to excuse me--not much of a group joiner and tend to be direct to a fault :-)

Never had this lag experience on undo myself, except after doing color grading.

martin-g1565 wrote on 9/3/2020, 6:12 PM

@set in 18? After color grading w Vegas or w/plugin? I'm using FilmConvert but I'm getting undo lag after re-drawing audio file length and then clicking undo.

vkmast wrote on 9/3/2020, 6:26 PM

@martin-g1565 MAGIX has two separate video-related product lines: MAGIX products and VEGAS Creative Software products. Check magix.com and vegascreativesoftware.com.

And even though the VEGAS team may not always comment here, they are keeping an eye on the complaints and feature requests.
