In the early days we had to install older drivers for this device.

@Heinz-Roggenkemper I was capturing some tapes just a few days ago, svhs via DV camera as passthrough. I tried VP18 first, just a black rectangular image. It is in depreceated, so I had already checked to make available again.

I used, attempted, the videocapture item under the “File” menu.

I had no difficulty when I instead used VP16.

Did a boatload of transfers using vp18 on Win10 this past Xmas. With archival hi8 tapes from my oldest Canon camera as well as vhs tapes via a Canopus ADVC-100... need to install the drivers linked above and make sure to use a firewire card with the TI chipset. Btw, all that deprecated checkbox does is to put Video Capture back in the menu. If you don't want it there (to avoid confusion with Screen Capture), you can also use Customize Toolbar to add the "Capture Video" icon to the toolbar. What is required, however, is to go into "Preferences, Video", check the box to use an external capture application, and then browse to "C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 18.0\VidCap60.EXE"

Unfortunately, the "Capture Video" icon is no longer included since Vegas Pro 19.

Yes, but no ICON

Project Media window as active, try using the "Import Media" dropdown menu to change to (e.g.) "Capture Video" and you might have your ICON left to it

II'm not sure, but it seems to me more likely to be a problem caused via a Windows update or a driver change in the Magix programs.
Months ago I was able to import DV camera data into Vegas via Firewire without any problems, but now it didn't work in Vegas Pro 18 or 19 or any other Magix programs.

@frmax, as you can see from this thread (and you have experienced yourself) recent versions have unpredictable support for DV capture. That utility falls further and further behind modern technology and it simply doesn't make sense for us to continue pouring development resources into maintaining it. This is why the feature has been deprecated. As pointed out above, if you have an older version of VEGAS Pro still (VP 16 was mentioned above), you could use that to try and capture your footage and then switch to VP19 for your editing. Otherwise I'm afraid you'll likely have to resort to a third-party tool as also suggested above. Sorry.

Maybe use an external utility to download from tape based camcorders

'HDVSplit' works fine for HDV whilst 'Scene Analyzer' performs a similar task for DV tape camcorders. Most modern NLE's no longer include tools for capturing from tape. Both 'tool' are free.

The comment in earlier posts are correct in that a legacy firewire driver needs to be loaded.

@gary-rebholz

You are misunderstanding me.I'm not complaining about Vegas losing the ability to record DV, because so far it's worked fine for me; since other programs that have nothing to do with Vegas are also affected, the fault seems to lie elsewhere.

@frmax As you've suggested possibly a Windows 10 Update. Even minor updates can sometimes quietly change something. It's a worry. I'm currently having a similar experience with other (non Magix/Vegas) software.
