I Purchased Vegas. Stop making me re-authorize it EVERY. TIME.

ADinosaur wrote on 5/14/2019, 4:04 PM

The absolute worst part about Magix Vegas is the licensing. I should do it once and never have to worry about it again. If I am offline on an airplane and need to use Vegas I should not have to re-authorize the software via the internet to use it. I pay to upgrade every single year and this is an absolutely awful user experience. I want to click on the icon and have the software load. Having to click through and/or enter login information to use 14, 15, or 16 every time or nearly every time I open Vegas is just unacceptable.

Is there any fix for this issue besides pirating software that I paid for?

Not normal...

Most of us don't have to reauthorize everytime we open Vegas Pro, except after updating to new build.

That last sentence of the OP is puzzling.

+1, and +1 again. Something is wrong with your install. Contact tech support / customer service to sort that out. Threatening piracy while talking to your fellow "paid-up" forum members is not really the best approach.

ADinosaur wrote on 5/14/2019, 9:25 PM

I have emailed support about this previously and gotten nowhere. This happens on my laptop and desktop with the last 3 versions of Vegas.

The point isn't to threaten piracy. It's not even piracy of you've paid for it. The point is that the software should not require authorization after the initial install. If the only way to achieve that is through piracy then something is very wrong with the licensing system and it is.

They've been notified of this with every release and it's still not fixed.

I understand your frustration.

However, I do not have such issue at all and never had. This is why I think that something might be strange with your setup and this caused the issue.

Magix is not able to fix the issue if they do not know what's causing it.

@ADinosaur - Wow! Is the “airplane” experience what happened to you? Have others hereabouts had this issue? I’m going to do en experiment later today.

Registering OFF-Line: I’m also aware that it isn’t essential to register FROM a PC whilst it isn’t INTERNET connection you’re using but we can register OFFLINE and but rather use a PC that has INTERNET connection. This in turn suggests, implies, reinforces that VP doesn’t require to be online, to do the re-register thing, that you’re experiencing to work.

Airplane and this week my WiFi was acting up after a Windows update and, of course, Vegas required me to re-authorize.

I'm not sure if there is an offline method for activation. I have no problem doing the online activation, but it doesn't stick. If I close Vegas or open another instance, there is a 90% change I will be asked to re-authorize. It's ridiculous. One time initially is more than enough.

Magix is honestly barely capable of even responding to emails.

Grazie wrote on 5/15/2019, 2:50 AM

@ADinosaur - What I’m saying is that because MAGIX offers an OFF-Line registration, and yes it does, and here, that’s via a PC that is ON-Line, it would be both opaque and oblique for them, MAGIX, to require you to continually re-register. Do you understand? From your reply to me it would appear, as yet, you don’t.

One further thought, when you access your Products, at MAGIX.COM, do you see your version of VP with the necessary serial number? Do you?

@Grazie is referring to this. See also point 3 here.

Wipe, and reinstall your WINDOWS. This is not a bug, or "feature", it's not broken, it's your system.

I've had almost no authorization issues with MAGIX Vegas Pro or Sound Forge (and that includes Sonic Foundry and Sony versions since 2001). A PC does not have to be online either once the product is authorized. The only minor annoyance I've experienced is the occasional registry tweak for the infamous elevated privilege' issue in Sony Sound Forge Pro 10.

If you leave your PC offline for more than 30 days, it requires authorization. The only case I can see where this is an issue is someone who doesn't edit video regularly, and rarely opens the software, has to update the software or hasn't opened it in that 30 day window, and is asked to re-authorize. But that PC would have to be left offline entirely for 30 days, as far as I can tell Vegas auto-authorizes in the background when your PC connects to the internet. I only get asked about it when updating to a new version.

It's piracy that is partly to blame for the policy, and all software makers these days are going with it. Other advantages it has, however, is the ability to issue refunds for up to 2 weeks after buying a new version, which cannot be done if they cannot deactivate the software via online checking.

This happens multiple times a day though. Probably 60-70% of the time I open the software. Even if an authorized window is open, starting a new instance of the software will cause it to happen again.

Do you have some kind of "cleanup programs" in your system that might have delete something that VP is used for storing registration information?

Just Windows Defender. I'm not like hot swapping critical hardware either.

This occurs on a custom built desktop and a Surface Book laptop.

I'd file a support ticket on this one, there's definitely something about your system that is unique and is causing this, I haven't heard of anyone else that has had the same issue.

They don't have an answer.

Might have to take the nuclear option and do a full clean install from scratch. They probably can't help because they cannot reproduce the error, which is the same issue we're having.

If your work computers are normally connected only to a private network (like mine) you'll have to breach security once a month or Vegas will de-authorize. Never happened with v14 (Magix promissed it wouldn't do that) but v16 definitely does this. To make matter worse, it doesn't balk till you go to save your work. Then it puts up an error message and unceremoniously exits, throwing your work away. Totally sucks.

I asked not about anti virus. I meant something like CCleaner, Registry Cleaner, etc.
Some of them have option to clean system on schedule or during restart.
As the issue exist on two different computers in your case it should be something common in setups.

What is your OS and Vegas languages? Do your profile roamed? Do you have some non-English letters in you profile's path?

You can try to create a new user in the system with simple English-only login name and check.
Also, you should double check if all these windows (c:\windows\), program files (c:\program files\), profiles (c:\users\<login>\), and vegas locations are at defaults (otherwise it is causing issues sometimes).
I'd also check that temp variable is set correctly, the folder exists and have enough free space.
