@Grazie The FHD “Red Car” test was previously used, its not a UHD, 4K test, it is still useful. A good while back, users saw that with more powerful machines it would be more beneficial to use a 4K benchmarking project instead of FHD. So to facilitate the requirement JV- converted the FHD Magix Sample project that came with VP to a 4K project. Thats whats now used in the Benchmarking continued project.
The key limitation of using the Red Car test is that the playback FPS values would be the same, i.e. max value, for say two different machines, even though one machine might be more powerful than the other. Currently no PC has saturated, reached, the max value of 25fps of the Benchmarking project, this is why it’s better to use the Red Car test to only measure render times with more modern machines.
@Grazie Well, obviously the Benchmarking continued test, after that whatever you wish. I don’t post Red Car or any other results in that thread, so don’t bother including any Red Car results there.
My suggestion is that since there is an interest? in the Red Car testing by @TheRhino and others, to start a new Red Car benchmarking thread, maybe @TheRhino or someone else can look after it. Don’t use it for measuring FPS values, for the reason given in my above post, use only for render tests.
@JN- IMO the old Red Car test from the Vegas 11 era is probably not long-enough to be useful anymore... Normally I get 14 second renders on my 9900K / VEGA 64 LQ system, but if I shut-down every background app, drive index, etc., and prioritize Vegas, I can shave-off 1-2 seconds. With such a short render, 2 seconds is about a 15% improvement, right? But if I run a much longer render, like the 4K tests, it only shaves-off those same 2 seconds... So it was good comparing the LAST generation of CPU/GPU combos to the current generation, but not variances in today's newer CPU/GPU combos.
Unfortunately I'm still teaching full-time & working my studio part-time so not much time to keep track of a benchmark spreadsheet. I appreciate that you, @JN- , are willing to keep track of the data because it helps all of us with hardware purchases, etc... Techgage sometimes posts Vegas benchmarks but they ran the V18 benchmarks before the latest Nvidia & AMD GPUs were released...
@TheRhino I agree with all of that, and for sure working full time rules it out. I remember that previously I also got great Red Car results using QSV and the non DCH drivers, about 1 sec. slower than yours.
Maybe one benchmarking project is enough to be going on with anyway. Despite our interest in all of this, it’s probably a minority interest really. There are an awful lot more users that have not used it than have.
I'm sure though, for those that are aware of it’s existence that it’s of use in making an informed decision re: upgrading and new builds.
Perhaps some day Magix will implement theirs.
Maybe worth to mention. When deciding which way to go, update, modify, upgrade the Red Car existing project to 4K or the Magix Sample Project FHD version to 4K, one of the deciding factors was that it might be a little difficult getting agreement from Sony and or contributors to that project, see all of the credits at the end.
So it was felt safer, easier to go with in house project. So far Magix has never raised an eyebrow.
Of course it depends on what you use Vegas for, but I find the Red Car the most representative of how I use it. Which is to edit multicam footage that I shoot. More so than any other Vegas benchmark I've seen. It's only failing is that the camera footage it was supplied with is only 50 mbps HD which is not as advanced as today's cameras, cpus, and gpu boards. But that was easy enough to remedy by swapping in some real-life 10-bit 4k 60mbps HEVC footage I shot with a Zcam E2. I particularly like the original project's balanced mix of PIP, many of the FX I use regularly, as well as an assortment of media generators so I didn't touch any of that at all. I keep the original and my media-modified Red Cars on an online google drive (see my signature... credit to @JN- for that inspiration). Also got my pip benchmark in the same place for comparing Vegas and DaVinci. The pip bench is strictly 4K HEVC zlog2 with LUT... of special interest to me because that's been my format of choice.
@Musicvid - Of course! Thank you. I’ve just got up, but I’ll be on the case early this morning and start the DL.
BTW, this MONSTA2! just adores rendering. Early indications are stunning. See the post I did on an Event with NeatVideo heavy lifting settings 😃. Also, whilst using MOCHAPRO Remove, it did it in Double FrameRate.
Many thanks to all of you for treating me with such patience, and preparing files for me, etc - Thank You 🙏!
OK, Veg loaded lickerty-split. No rendering, yet, but initial playing back of Timeline gives me SOLID, unwavering FPS. No bumps or shakes or .... whatever, just a beautiful piece of filming and editing treatment. Is this what y’ll get anyway?
Next stage renderings - yes? Or should I be doing something else? It starting to come back to me.... The different regions and so on. Yeah!
