Vegas Pro 17 wont load at all

Stratman wrote on 12/20/2019, 5:10 PM

Hi,

My first post here...

I purchased Pro 17 (previous Movie Studio 16 Platinum user) yesterday and installed it. It loaded ok first time, all looked good then l and I loaded first project to try out the colour grading. Saved project exited.

Now when I try to start the program every time I get a crash and cant use Pro 17 at all

I have logged a support ticket and sent them the dump files.

In the meantime thought I would also ask on this forum for help as well. I have also tried the holding down ctl & shift keys when loading , cleared the cache but error persists and program wont load. Also tried renaming Boris FX folders so they don't load but same error.

Part of the error report on trying to load is -:

Problem : Unmanaged Exception 0ex06d7363

Fault Module: c:\WINDOWS\System32\KERNELBASE.dll

update -: Vegas Pro 17 build 387; Installed on Microsoft Surface Book 1, WIn10 Pro (update 1909), Intel i7,16GB, NVIDA graphics NVIDA driver 441.66 (I installed latest driver to try something else to fix issue)

Appreciate any help :)

Are you using Win10?

The fault module tells me it could be an issue with your windows installation. Try this:

Improperly shutting down your PC or malware infections can corrupt kernelbase.dll thus leading to DLL errors. In this case, we can manually register affected DLL file. Here's how:

1. Click the Start button.
2. Type "command" in the search box.

3. Hold CTRL + Shift on your keyboard and click on Command Prompt. This will open it with admin privileges.

4. Click Yes on the permission dialog box.

5. Type and enter this command: regsvr32 /u KernelBase.dll. This will unregister the file.

6. Type and enter this command: regsvr32 /i KernelBase.dll. This will register the file.

If that fails, try to reinstall Vegas.

I'd try to do the following:

- Uninstall all VP installations and all VP plugins. Delete all VP related folders

- Use DISM, SFC & Windows Troubleshooter to check windows installation

- Check/fix registry using CCleaner

- Update MB BIOS

- Update your MB chipset drivers and your GPU drivers (both intel + nvidia). You can download them manually, using Intel Install Assistant or with driver installer or similar program. I'd use Driver Easy as this is faster (I've tested the program for 2 years with a few PCs I'm looking after. Other similar programs I tested also failed)

- Test PC stability using different stress test programs including MemTest (RAM) & FurMark (GPU) + something for CPU

- Install VP (without any plugins)

How do you start the program, by the projectfile or an empty project through the desktop button?

OK,

1. unregistered / re registered Kernelbase.dll -> no change

2. run file scan etc windows reported no corruptions errors. ->no change

3. cleaned registry with CCcleaner removed issues reboot etc - no change

4. Uninstalled Pro17 / reinstalled-> program started, navigated around program ok / loaded media for new project then exited program without saving.

Now starting program for the second time and same issue reappears. Now after only starting and exiting program once I get the same KernelBase.dll error on startup and program will not load.

I’m having the exact same issue. Incredibly frustrating as this was a gift for my son. Works fine on first open then same error after that. Any help would be VERY much appreciated.

@Brett-Maloney ans @Stratman
Did you also tried such a first open followed by immediate close without loading files or a a project?

Yes - it says “the program has stopped working” before it opens the program at all.

Any help from towards the end of this thread?

j-v wrote on 12/23/2019, 10:12 AM

Yes - it says “the program has stopped working” before it opens the program at all.

That was my question not, my question is if there was a project or files loaded when you ended it the first time or was that first load only an empty project.

It is good that you are able to cleanup and start.

When you exited the VP, was it closed? Have you checked in Task Manager?

Can you re-install it again (with cleanup), start VP and check what is in GPU preference? Is it Off, Nvidia or Intel there? Try change it to Off for now.

BTW, have you updated chipset/intel iGPU drivers?

I have the latest NVIDIA drivers; When I first loaded P17 and I checked preferences and it said GPU was NVIDIA being used. It is a Microsoft Surface book (performance base version) it has NVIDIA GPU in the base and Intel GPU in the cover. Either GPU is selectable in preference tab

I did not load a project just added some media and then simply exited the program normally without saving anything. I don't think it will make a difference but I will uninstall again and try to load program and exit without changing anything.

You can try to run VP using another user on the same PC:

- Uninstall VP + cleanut

- Create new user (use English letters only in the username)

- Log off

- Log in as the new user

- Install VP, run & check

Is .NET Runtime 4.7.2 installed on your computer?

Don't uninstall older versions.

Stratman wrote on 12/23/2019, 11:01 PM

I used Regedit to look for .NET Framework and all I can see is folders with 4.0

Stratman wrote on 12/23/2019, 11:11 PM

also I see .Net framework 4.8 is the latest version, should I install 4.8 or 4.7.2?

fifonik wrote on 12/24/2019, 12:24 AM

I do have the same .NET version installed.

What anti-virus do you have?

Avast anti-virus

ploan wrote on 12/24/2019, 1:09 AM

Not to pile on; but I have the EXACT same issue (just bought the software). Like Stratman, when I first installed it, it worked. the second time i open it, I have this exact error message. I've tried cCleaner, uninstall, reinstall. I have a relatively new PC so it's definitely not malware.

At this point, after uninstalling everything magix and reinstalling a couple of times already, getting frustrated. Is this a known issue? Would love to hear a solution.

fifonik wrote on 12/24/2019, 2:25 AM

Many people here does not have such issue. It is sad that you have it. But this means that your systems have something in common and only you can try to find what is that.

It is a bit hard to help as communication is limited and it is not clear if every recommendation was followed.

For example: I recommended to update chipset and iGPU drivers twice in the topic only. This is also recommended in FAQ. I recommended try to create another user profile with English letters only. No any feedback received about these recommendations. FAQ also recommends to try disable anti-virus (I mentioned that intentionally). FAQ (1, 2) also have quite a lot of other recommendations that were not even mentioned here.

If you have exactly the same issue you can also try to follow FAQ and these recommendations and provide feedback. The probability that someone finally find the root of the issue will be higher.
