There are 1,439,237 kinds of AVI. We've met most of them by now. If you'll be so nice to tell us what kind yours is, well be happy to help you. I have Vegas 14 too.

How to Post File Properties in Vegas

One of the caveats on this forum re K-Lite.

Had that problem just last week with an oddball avi file on a new machine. Apparently Vegas relies on codecs installed independently on your machine for some of it's import functionality. Fixed by installing the K-Lite Codec Mega Pack followed by installing this update.

The installation of codec packs is not always a free ride, as some incorrect registry entries may be difficult to uninstall without Revo or a full system image. Read here, especially #12 before embarking.

It's less risky to install only the codec needed, and we can help you with that. Let's start first with routine file properties linked above.

There's never been a problem with K-Lite codecs but there are issues with the download page which is why I did not link it directly above... like many other download pages it lists sponsored links more prominently than it's own for things like extraneous driver replacements which can cause endless problems if you click on them by mistake. I link it here just to illustrate what I'm talking about.

@Musicvid's probably referring to section 12 here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-why-won-t-vegas-open-my-file-correctly-codecs-converters-etc--104572/

edit: he added the link.

If you've followed the forum through the years, there are many reports to the contrary.

Thank you all. I installed the K-lite codec but had not restarted my system. That solved my problem. Thank you all for the input. I really appreciate it.

I hope you never have to uninstall K-lite. Or get rid of bedbugs.
